Resists Alchemy Guide

Forward

In this guide I will be showing you how to level your Alchemy skill cheaply, fast and with as little effort as possible. Everything in my guide can be stacked making them easy and fast to sell or store!

The Basics

To craft anything you need a crystal, you use different crystals for different syntheses. In Alchemy we mostly use Lightning Crystals and Water Crystals but will also use all of the other types. When you synthesize something with a crystal, the crystal will always get used up.

Elemental Basics

When you synthesize something the synth can break, succeed or High Quality (High Quality is better that just succeed as the name suggests, this will result in more than one of the item you are synthing or a +1 High Quality version of the item you are synthing). This depends on several factors: Your skill level, weather, day of the week, Moon Phase and direction you face.

Your skill level: The higher you level the more likely it is for you to have a successful or High Quality (HQ) synth.

Weather: If the weather is the same as the crystal you are using to synth, it will increase the chance of having a successful or HQ synth. If the weather element is opposite to crystal you are crafting with it will lower the chance of a successful synth.

Day of the week: Much the same as the weather. Each day of the week corresponds to an element.

Moon Phase: I will briefly go through this so see page Moon Phase for more detail. A Full moon will give you more skill ups but less HQs. New mood will give you less skill ups but more HQs.

On the right there is a chart of the Elements, as the key indicates the arrows point to the element that it is strong against, this also means that the opposite direction to the arrow shows the elements weakness. For example, Thunder is pointing to Water, so Thunder is strong against Water, and Water is weak against Thunder. This in application means that if you craft using a Water Crystal on a Lightning day or in Lightning weather you are more likely to break your synth, but this does not mean that if you use a Lightning Crystal on a Watersday or in Water weather you successfully synth more, this will not make a difference.

Darksdays. . . Unless you are crafting with a Dark Crystal, don't craft on Darksdays if ever possible, your synths will break a lot more and you wont get as much skill, its just all around bad.

Elements

Let's talk compass

This is a version of the Crafting Compass that I made up for this guide. This is pretty self explanatory, but I will explain further.

When crafting the direction you face will affect the outcome of the synth, depending on the crystal you are using. So this compass shows what direction is what element, and what the effect on your synth will be.

I think it would be good to mention at this point, that you can get skill from breaking a synth, but only if you are 5 or less levels below the cap. So when skilling up ALWAYS face the Safe Synth direction until you are 5 or less levels bellow the level cap. One at this point, it is your choice as to whether you choose to stick with safe synth, usually if the synth is expensive, or if you go for the HQ/Skill up synth.

Guild Test Items

Every ten skill levels, you are required to prove to the guild that you "have what it takes" by crafting (or buying) an Alchemic item of the guild's choosing. This item can be turned in once you have reached an "8" in skill (8, 28, 48, etc.) or higher skill (up to the cap). Once you have the requisite skill, speak with the Guild Master, Abd-al-Raziq.

Level Item Requested Rank Acquired

Amateur - Starting off

Level 1-6

Tsurara

Tsurara

Crystal: Ice Crystal

This is a great cheap synth. Buy 5 or so stacks of Ice Crystals and head over to either Windurst or San d'Oria. San d'Oria is easier but Windurst works too if you want to.

San d'Oria: We are going to a standard merchant, much better than a guild merchant because they don't have days off or close at night, and they don't run out of stock. Find Benaige in Southern San d'Oria (F-7), you can buy both Rock Salt and Distilled Water from her.

Windurst: Head to Windurst Waters (E-8) the Cooking Guild Shop and buy about 5 stacks of Rock Salt from Chomo Jinjahl then head just over to the road to Ness Rugetomal in Windurst Waters (F-10) and buy about 10 stacks of Distilled Water.

This should get you through to level 6 and if it doesn't quite make you level 6 then just grab some more crystals or buy extra to start. If you make enough to sell them as 12 tool bags trade your 99 x Tsurara to Ominous Cloud with a Wijnruit for each 99 stack and he will give you a tool bag. Most you can trade at a time is 7 x Wijnruit and 7 x 99 Tsurara. Note that Ominous Cloud will appear in the city in 1st place of conquest, so check that before you go to him, he will also not appear if there is a tie for 1st place, very annoying but doesn't happen too much.

Level 6-10

Poison Dust

Poison Dust

Crystal: Lightning Crystal

Although this caps at level 12, it is better to move onto the next synth at level 10 because it is much cheaper. This is a very simple synth, you can fish the Yellow Globe but it will take along time and won't save you that much money. So you can either buy them from Auction House or from a NPC. I would recommend checking Babubu a fishing guild merchant in Port Windurst (C-8) to see what price he is selling his Yellow Globes, might be better than Auction House prices. If not just buy 12 or so stacks from Auction House and get synthing. Don’t worry about over buying Lightning Crystal as we will be using them in the next synth anyway. Save all of these as we will be using them shortly to make Poison Potions.

Once you reach level 10, you will need to turn in your guide item so that you can advance past level 10. So grab yourself an Animal Glue and head to Abd-al-Raziq the Alchemy Guild Master in Bastok Mines (L-7) and trade him the Animal Glue, now you're good until level 20!

Recruit

Level 10-16

Mercury

Mercury

Crystal: Lightning Crystal

Or

This is a great synth, easy and very cheap if you're lucky or willing to wait. You can do this synth with Cobalt Jellyfish or Denizanasi - it doesn't make a difference. You can buy Cobalt Jellyfish from several different NPC prices vary from 288gil a stack to 1980gil a stack, which is almost always cheaper than Auction House prices and you can normally get it at the lower end of the price range if you look around. A couple of easy ones to check are Babubu in Port Windurst (C-8) or Gathweeda in Aht Urhgan Whitegate (G-5). There's only one NPC that sells Denizanasi it's Wahnid in Aht Urhgan Whitegate (H-11) for about the same price as the Cobalt Jellyfish. If you buy a shop out of stock of the Cobalt Jellyfish or Denizanasi then don't wait for the next day and new stock because it will cost a lot more - just move to a different shop. Make the same amount of these as you did with Poison Dust if you can, and save these for our next synth! If you match the number Poison Dust with Mercury before you get to level 18 just move onto the next synth.

Remember this synth and the NPCs because you'll be doing this synth every time you have to make any kind of potion.

Level 16-18

Poison Potion

Poison Potion

Crystal: Water Crystal

Get your Poison Dust and Mercury from your previous synths, and buy enough Water Crystal to finish all of your items. You can farm Water Clusters from Crawlers' Nest if you really need to save the money, just go down to the circle room on map 3 these are about level 52-54 so you probably need a level 70+ to be able to farm them, or you can try Jugner Forest. They're a lot weaker there, but water weather doesn't come as much. However, they're cheap on the Auction House so you probably won't need to farm them - don't worry about over buying or farming them as we will be using them in the next synth. Once you have finished these, sell them off and make some of your money back. I would wait for all of these to sell before you start on the next synth unless you have an abundance of space.

Now you're level 18 Alchemy, so grab one of your Poison Potions and head to Abd-al-Raziq the Alchemy Guild Master in Bastok Mines (L-7) and trade him a Poison Potion - now you're good until level 30!

Initiate

Level 18-24

Silent Oil

Silent Oil

Crystal: Water Crystal

This is quite a pricey synth to buy, but if you farm it it's a great way to level your skill. It will take around 4-6 stacks on average to get the 4 levels. You can farm the Slime Oil from Jellys in Korroloka Tunnel - they're level 23-27 and have a 40% drop on Slime Oil, but can drop up to three at a time. For the Beeswax you will need to farm Beehive Chip. I recommend West Sarutabaruta on Starfall Hillock killing Giant Bees because you can also kill Crawlers to get Silk Thread as a bit of a bonus. Take around 12 stacks of Fire Crystals and Distilled Water out with you to synth the Beehive Chips into Beeswax - this will save a lot of inventory space, and you can buy Distilled Water from Ness Rugetomal in Windurst Waters (F-10) North. The Beeswax synth is a level 5 Alchemy so you shouldn't have a problem might even HQ some, it takes a Fire Crystal, 3 x Beehive Chip and 1 x Distilled Water. This will take some time to farm and synth, if you want to cut the time then only farm the Beeswax - either way you'll make a nice profit. Once you have all of your items ready, buy your Water Crystals and get synthing. Again, don't worry about over buying Water Crystals as we will be using them and more Beeswax in the next synth.

Level 24-29

Silent Oil

Silent Oil

Crystal: Water Crystal

More Silent Oil?!?!?! Yes, but a slightly different synth, cheaper too! So away with the Slime Oils, and out with the Olive Oil, these can be bough cheap from NPCs so don't look at Auction House. Again we will be farming Beehive Chip to make Beeswax, or you can buy it, it's up to you really but it can get expensive! So get 12 or so stacks of Fire Crystals and farm all of your Beehive Chip to synth Beeswax.

So now you have your 12 or so stacks of Beeswax, get your 6 or so stacks of Water Crystal. You can buy Olive Oil on two different practical places Aveline in Southern San d'Oria (F-7) or Malfud in Aht Urhgan Whitegate (F-8). If you want to get Synthesis Image Support and plan to buy the Olive Oil as you synth because of inventory space then Aht Urhgan Whitegate is the best for that as you can get Synthesis Image Support there. If you're not going to use Synthesis Image Support then Aveline in Southern San d'Oria (F-7) sells Olive Oil. Or if you have enough space to buy all you need then you can go to the Alchemists' Guild (Bastok) in Bastok Mines (K-7) for Synthesis Image Support.

Once you've done all of them you should be level 29! And have more Silent Oil then you could ever use, so sell them off and make some nice gil. I would recommend selling all of these before you start you next synth so you don't get too blocked up with items.

You're level 29 Alchemy now, you'll need to give the guild a Blinding Potion to be able to advance past level 30. So buy a Blinding Potion from Auction House or synth it if you really want to. Head to Abd-al-Raziq the Alchemy Guild Master in Bastok Mines (L-7) and trade him your Blinding Potion, and you can relax till level 40.

Novice

Level 29-37

Jusatsu

Jusatsu

Crystal: Dark Crystal

This WILL break a lot for the first couple of levels, but as you will be making a profit on this anyway you should break even in the end. The reason we are doing this so early is because although there are other synths that we can do the bridge the gap, they aren’t profitable and will take up a lot more inventory space and time.

Okay, so you can craft the Black Ink but don't, it's rarely worth it as higher levels sell these on Auction House cheaper than you can craft them. You can buy all of these items from Auction House or if you want to farm then you can farm the Beastman Blood, I would recommend Thread Leeches in Pashhow Marshlands they have a 18% drop rate, 17 spawn points and only 5 minutes respawn time, they are level 18-22 but leaches are generally tougher than their level, so bear that in mind. If you farm then you will make a very nice profit, but if you just buy them from Auction House then you can make a small profit or at least break even.

I would definitely recommend getting Synthesis Image Support at least for the first two or three levels. If you make enough to sell them as 12 tool bags trade your 99 x Jusatsu to Ominous Cloud with a Wijnruit for each 99 stack and he will give you a tool bag. Most you can trade at a time is 7 x Wijnruit and 7 x 99 Jusatsu. Note that Ominous Cloud will appear in the city in 1st place of conquest, so check that before you go to him, he will also not appear if there is a tie 1st place, very annoying but doesn't happen too much.

Level 37-41

Vitriol

Vitriol

Crystal: Water Crystal

This synth caps at 43, but we'll only be doing it until 41 as we will be using them in the next synth don't want to have more than we'll need to cap out our next synth. And the next synth won’t be losing us money.

This is a simple synth, you will lose a bit of money on it BUT you will make it back and some when you use them to make Acid Bolt Heads as our next synth. I wouldn't bother farming these, they are dirt cheap and bit of a waste of time farming. But if for some reason you want to farm them here is what I would recommend, Walking Saplings in North Gustaberg and South Gustaberg, the 22-30% drop rate and in the two zones there are a whapping 89 spawns! You can also get Grain Seeds and Vegetable Seeds which are worth 7k-10k each stack.

If you plan to buy them or farm them, do it in Bastok. There is generally more of them in Bastok Auction House and most of the time they are cheaper too, and as a bonus you are right beside the guild if you use the Auction House in Bastok Mines.

Once you reach level 38, buy or synth a Firesand and trade it to Abd-al-Raziq the Alchemy Guild Master in Bastok Mines (L-7) so you can get past level 40. And carry on with your Vitriol!

Smithing Subcraft!

Now we take out some time to level our smithing if you haven’t already.
When making money with Alchemy most of the time you will be making bolt heads,
and bolt heads have a level 14 Smithing subcraft.

Yeah. . . I know what you're thinking. "This sucks" and it does, you'll probably spend more money that you wont get back on these 14 levels than from 1-50 Alchemy. But you need to do it if you ever want to make money on bolts with Alchemy.

Smithing - Amateur

Level 0-2

Bronze Ingot

Bronze Ingot

Crystal: Fire Crystal

So let’s get this over with, go to Metalworks (E-9) the smithing guild. Take some Fire Crystals, you will be using a lot of Fire Crystals for these levels so don't worry about over buying. Here you can buy Copper Ore for 9-26gil each, and Tin Ore for 30~. So make these until you hit level 2, save all of these. If you buy a shop out of stock of the any items then don't wait for the next day and new stock because it will cost a lot more, move to a different shop, there are three Smithing Guilds Al Zahbi (H-9), Metalworks (E-9) and Northern San d'Oria (E-5) so take your pick.

Level 2-4

Bronze Sheet

Bronze Sheet

Crystal: Fire Crystal

Use the Bronze Ingots you made earlier to make these until level 4. Easy peasy! Save any Bronze Ingots that you don't use for this synth for our 10-14 synth.

Level 4-10

Bronze Scales

Bronze Scales

Crystal: Wind Crystal

Again use the Bronze Sheets we made in the last synth. These aren’t worth much but better this than something that doesn't stack and takes forever to sell, so put these on sale to get rid of them or sell them to an NPC if you don't want to wait.

To advance past level 10 you will need to trade a Xiphos to Ghemp in Metalworks (E-7) (Bastok).

Smithing - Recruit

Level 10-14

Bronze Bolt Heads

Bronze Bolt Heads

Crystal: Wind Crystal

Use up the Bronze Ingots you made and didn't use earlier, and buy any extra you need from the guild if it's cheaper than Auction House they can cost from 684 gil to 4188 gil a stack, if not buy them from Auction House they are normally around 3000 gil a stack. Again if you buy a shop out of stock of the any items then don't wait for the next day and new stock because it will cost a lot more, move to a different shop.

Congratulations! You're all done with smithing, you can sell the Bronze Bolt Heads or save them to level your Woodworking, up to you.

Apprentice

Level 41-45

Acid bolt heads

Acid Bolt Heads

Crystal: Wind Crystal

Now we use up the Vitriol we made earlier, also can use the Bronze Ingots if you have any left over. Buy them from the Smithing Guild, there are three Smithing Guilds, Al Zahbi (H-9), Metalworks (E-9) and Northern San d'Oria (E-5) so take your pick. The prices at the guild vary from 684 gil to 4188 gil a stack, so check it's cheaper than Auction House before you start.

Animal Glue!!! You could craft these and save a little gil, but it’s not really worth it, so buy them from Auction House. If you really want to make them yourself, buy Bone Chips from Bastok Auction House or farm them from several different Skeleton in Gusgen Mines first map, there is a circle you can run on map 1. For the Rabbit Hide you can buy them from Cletae in Southern San d'Oria (D-8) for 540 gil - 3312 gil a stack, or you can farm them from Forest Hare in East Ronfaure and West Ronfaure, there are 161 spawn points with a 20% drop rate on Rabbit Hide and can drop up to 2 at a time. Or buy them from San d'Oria Auction House.

Sell these or save them to make into bolts if you do Woodworking, or sell them at Auction House.

Level 45-51

Holy Water

Holy Water

Crystal: Light Crystal

Nice simple synth, not much to say about this. Buy the Light Crystal when they are cheap, or farm them from Ru'Aun Gardens but you will need a 75ish BLM, RDM or SCH so you can use nuke / sleep method of killing.

When you get to level 48, 49 or 50 buy or make a Fire Sword and take it to Abd-al-Raziq the Alchemy Guild Master in Bastok Mines (L-7).

Journeyman

Level 51-56

Sleeping Potion

Sleeping Potion

Crystal: Water Crystal

This synth can be a bit of a pain, but it's good if you do it right. Both the Chamomile and Poison Flour can be bought from NPCs so you don't need to worry about them.

Firstly the Sleepshroom can either be bought from Auction House, best San d'Oria or Jeuno/Aht Urhgan Whitegate Auction House as they will have them in stock more. But if you don't want to buy them and want to farm them here's the how-to. You are going to be farming from Jugner Funguars in Jugner Forest, there is a spot on the map called "Spore Hollow" (K-6) were there are about 15 spawns of the Jugner Funguars very close together! It's a great place to farm Sleepshroom, the drop rate is about 37% and they also drop Woozyshroom that sell for 2.5k or so a stack as a little bonus. If you are going to train these and kill them, bear in mind that the drop rate is better when killed individually rather than using AOE magic or WSs. Once you have all the Sleepshroom you need, head to Upper Jeuno and buy enough Chamomile to match your Sleepshroom, they will cost from 1404 gil - 1620 gil a stack. Buy the Water Crystals you need and go to Lower Jeuno (H-10) talk to Pawkrix to buy the Poison Flour for 515 gil each, these don't stack so it's best to do all of your crafting here.

Level 56-60/61

Venomdust

Venom Dust

Crystal: Lightning Crystal

I'll point out that this is when Alchemy skill really starts to slow down to a crawl. But never the less if you are leveling alchemy to 60 then you are almost done, so lets crack on. There are several different recipes for Venom Dust and none of them will make you any money, unless you farm them so that is what we are going to do. And unless you have a high fishing skill, then this is the best way to go!

Farming the Scorpion Claws will take a long time and they wont be worth much when we make them into Venom Dust and will be worth even less when we make them into Venom Potions. You can buy Scorpion Claws from the Bonecraft Guild, but the price varies greatly and is rarely worth it. You can also buy them from Auction House but they generally cost much more than they are worth, so we will be farming them. There are three different places you can farm these depending on your level.

Finale for some

Gear up and head to one of these three locations, take your stacks of Lightning Crystal because the Scorpion Claws do NOT stack so you will be crafting there to save yourself a lot of time. Buy enough Crystals to fill 1/3 of your remaining inventory space, after gear, if you are going to be keeping the Scorpion Shells to sell. Or buy enough Crystals to fill 1/2 of your remaining inventory space, after gear, if you are just going to drop the shells.

 Maze of Shakhrami

Maze of Shakhrami

Low level 35~:

You can farm Scorpion Claws in Maze of Shakhrami from Maze Scorpions or Labyrinth Scorpions, both have a 50% or so drop rate on the Scorpion Claws. Also bear in mind that the Labyrinth Scorpions are a few levels higher than the Maze Scorpions. Mage jobs might want to wait until slightly higher levels to farm here, depending on your skill levels and solo capability. Using the map on the right, you should be able to farm scorpions non stop at any level, but if you find that you are killing them faster than they respawn, which is about 15 minutes, then there are a lot of crawlers you can kill for Silk Thread to use up a bit of time and make some money.

The Scorpions also drop a Scorpion Shell 30% of the time, these do not stack but sell to NPCs for 400-500gil each so you might want to save them if you have space.

 Crawlers' Nest

Crawlers' Nest

Mid level 50~:

These isn't much difference between this and the last one, only that this one you will have to wait for respawns but the drop rate is 100%. You will need a level 50+ job, again mages judge for yourself if you can solo these or not, and any melee without Dancer as a sub should be cautious, they do link and spawn close together. That aside, we are in Crawlers' Nest now, there are five Doom Scorpions to kill and they all have a 16 minutes respawn time and 100% drop for a Scorpion Claw. Four of them are close together with the fifth a little walk away, so it's up to you if you kill the fifth or don't bother. Again refer to the map that I have made for spawn points.

Again the Scorpions also drop a Scorpion Shell 20% of the time, these do not stack but sell to NPCs for 400-500gil each so you might want to save them if you have space.

 Crawlers' Nest

Crawlers' Nest

High level 70~:

This is the best one, but you will need a level 70+ job to be safe, or even 75 for some jobs as 2 of these will check as easy pray to a 75. All of these have a 200% drop rate on Scorpion Claws, or 100% of dropping 2 if you prefer, they also always drop 1 Scorpion Shell. As I mentioned earlier the Scorpion Shells sell to NPCs for 400-500 each, and if you save them and make a town run every time you inventory gets full you can make some money off these, I made over 50k doing this not a huge amount but helped with some costs. This town trip also let me restock on crystals, put the Poison Dusts I had made in my Mog Safe and off load any Beastmen's Seals and Kindred's Seals I had collected as well as NPCing the Scorpion Shells.

The three Mushussu on the east side of the map are weaker than the two Crawler Hunters that check as easy pray to a level 75. You will need to get past several beetles that also check easy pray to get to the Crawler Hunters, so sub a mage job or Dancer for Invisible. These all have a 16 minute respawn and they should have started respawning once you have killed all five.

So this is the end of my guide for now, I will be adding 60-100 soon so I ask that no one else does it for me.

Congratulations on level 60. And start making some money!
