Tips

Keep in mind based on several others experience the mobs appear to resist Silence and Sleep spells.

Working Job Combinations

This section is not meant to discourage people from trying different combinations, but to illustrate combinations that have been tried and tested. Please feel free to try this BCNM with any combination you think might work, and above all, have fun!

SOLO STRATEGIES

<BST 90/DNC 45>

Fairly easy fight. I entered the fight with 100%, popped Nazuna and ran to the Yagudos. The beginning was tricky, but once I could manage to have Nazuna fight long enough to have time to pop her AOE sleep, she aggroed everyone. Further pop linked to her aswell, so while she tanked (no reward needed) I picked the Yags 1 by 1 until the boss appeared. Completed in 10-ish mins. Goldengreg 23:56, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

<DRG 80/BLU 40>

Went in with full perle set, and Trial Completed Stingray DMG 83 +18 Impulse Drive DMG+10(which this WS was not used at all)

Strategy:

I attempted to grab a few before they charge into the main room but only managed to grab 4 of em. Now if your Polearm skill is at least above 300, this will make things easier as Sonic Thrust deals an insane amount of damage to these yags (I was consistently hitting for over 1200 on about 5 or 6 yags. Having some decent HP + and Wyvern HP + gear will help for healing breath because you will infact use it a few times. As soon as the NM pops target him and pound him into the ground. What I did was pull the NM to the front of a large group of yags and Sonic Thrust through em, works like a charm. I ended up 2hring at the end of the fight with only about 4 yags left, but that was because I was too lazy to press all 3 of my macros for healing breath so using the 2HR is not required. Deep Breathing however was used when the NM got me to about 300 HP (I kept getting interrupted) so once my HP was high again rinse and repeat bc at this point he should be dead, the NM is weak as well.

Strategy Pros:

  • Weak Yags mean Sonic Thrust will make your life easier, With Full Perle Set, Defense Bonus (from BLU spells), Cocoon, and a Tavnazian Taco I was pushing 691 defense. Having a good Healing Breath set macro will make this fight easier, if u get interrupted just try again and don't panic.

Strategy Cons:

  • I initially died the first time using a Carbonara for HP+ increase, but somewhere along the way the yag attacks added up too fast. The 2nd time I used a Tav Taco and pwned. You may find yourself continuingly trying to get a spell for healing breath off because you will get interrupted a few times. I used Power Attack bc it only cost 5 mp and at the time I was not aware of the yags randomly restoring your mp.

Overall this FIGHT WAS A BLAST and I love the Cutscenes, just be competent in your job and this will be easy..Kira of Phoenix 13:22, September 1, 2010 (UTC)--

<WHM 80/BLM 40>

Strategy: Eat basic defense food (Boiled Crab here, but if your cooking or wallet is bigger, go nuts, had about 360 Defense between Protect IV, gear, and the crab). Have potions and echo drops for backup. Buff with Reraise, Protect, Shell, rest for MP, then Haste, and Ice Spikes (this is very important). Also Stoneskin, but you probably won't be able to refresh this buff while in combat. Enter with Earth Staff and basic gear (Noble's Tunic + Blessed Gear + Walahra Turban). Afflatus Misery + Auspice, and of course, Regen III. Combo Banishga II and AOE Staff WS, be sure to draw the Yagudo away a few rooms so you don't get mobbed as badly. Refresh Ice Spikes, Haste, Regen III, and Auspice in that order priority. Cure self as necessary, and if you get too low, pop Benediction. Between groups, remove debuffs, and if possible, re-up Stoneskin. Once the NM shows, clear any stragglers attacking with him, then change to a club (Purgatory Mace was what I used, but any high damage club should work), and show him how a real White Mage fights, with Hexa Strikes. Slow him to keep the fight more enjoyable, keep HP high. NM is easy peasy.

Strategy Pros: You can solo it. On the cheap. (Ate Boiled Crab and bought an Earth Staff for this.)

Strategy Cons: White Mage can suck at taking out large groups, so it isn't really a fun fight until it is just you and the NM. Yagudo buff drops are unreliable but can save your butt. You'll need an Earth Staff even if you tell yourself you don't, the 20% damage reduction really helps. Anyone who says you need a Medicine Earring is trying to sell you something though.

Overall, this fight isn't too bad, but it sucks that you can only get one of the special Mithkabobs ever.

<PUP 75/DNC 37>

Went in with Evasion gear and Soulsoother Robot.

Strategy:

  • First, I tried to grab as many Yagudo as I could before they congregated in the main room. Upon reaching the main room, I simply took them out 1 by 1, with priority given to Theologists due to their magic. Most healing was accomplished through Waltzes, so the Automaton proved useful mainly for healing status effects like Paralyze and Blind.
  • Defense Food (I used boiled crab) The Yagudo are weak, but their frenzied assault of beaks and talons can really add up.

Strategy Pros:

  • The Yagudo here are weak, even a PUP's pugilistic punching power can pound them down in 2 combat rounds.
  • Soulsoother Robot is a good backup healer and status effect remover.

Strategy Cons:

  • It is possible that you can get overwhelmed by Yagudo. Spell lock can be your demise if you get particularly unlucky.

Making this Strategy Better:

  • Pack on Evasion Gear and stuff your belly with Defense Food. Although you have Waltzes and a walking Cure Tank to back you up, Role Reversal is a nice ace to have up your Dastanas.

<BLU 75/WHM 37>

Strategy:

  • First attempt failed because I underestimated the power of the mage-type Yagudo spamming -ga2 and enfeebles from out of my AoE range.
  • Second attempt I drew them into the tunnel, and fought on the incline around the corner to crowd them together more.
    • Items: Echo Drops, Persikos au Lait, Tavnazian Taco
    • Notable Gear: Perdu Hanger, Acheron Shield(Genbu's is a lot better if you have it), Wivre Mask(excellent full-time choice here), Scouter's Rope(after the first few groups, I noticed they missed often, so I used this instead of Warwolf Belt or Potent Belt), Body/Hands/Legs/Feet BLU AF.
    • Spells: Battle Dance, Head Butt, Grand Slam, Frypan, Disseverment, Refueling, Cocoon, Temporal Shift, Plasma Charge, Magic Fruit, Saline Coat, Actinic Burst, Blood Saber, and Zephyr Mantle.
      • Mainly used Battle Dance and Grand Slam for damage, and to a lesser extent due to the MP cost Frypan. Temporal Shift helped when I needed to heal myself. Blood Saber is excellent, and by far the best way to heal yourself in this BC, as it typically drained 115HP per Yagudo (Note: Mage-types usually have SS up, so when you use it you'll want at least a few melee Yagudo around you). I made sure Refueling was up before initial aggro, never really had time to cast it again... no real need to either. Cocoon up FULL TIME (for obvious reasons). Head Butt and Disseverment were used on the NM, and worked quite well. Savage Blade>Disseverment SC did 500>1200>700, taking well over half his HP. The rest of the spells were for trait combos, Auto Refresh and Defense Bonus.
    • As far as tactics are concerned, from the start just make your way up the tunnel. The Yagudo in the first two rooms will run away from you, if you manage to get ahead of them you can fight 2-3 at a time. After the second room you'll come up to a 3rd room, this is where they start flanking you non-stop. So step in a little bit to get their attention, and run back just before the 2nd room and wait for them around the corner on the incline. This will group them up around you for your AoE barrage. Go ahead and engage one, and begin using your arsenal of spells. Once you get 100TP, Circle Blade is your friend. I used the Persikos au Lait about this time, since it lasts for 10 whole minutes. Take your time and focus on using Battle Dance and Grand Slam, (Battle Dance is the better of the two, hitting for roughly 170-190, while Grand Slam did 110-130), and everything should go smoothly. My MP was about 670, and until the NM I never fell below 200 thanks to the occasional MP restore from killing a random yagudo. Once the Yagudo assault is finished, the NM is a piece of cake.
      • Have fun, this mission is a blast^^

<BLU 75/SCH 37>

This is The Vampire Mage Strategy , which is similar to the above (BLU/WHM) however it differs in the use of tricks and tools brought on by the /SCH job. Also this is applying the concept of the "Vampire Mage" brought on by Smudgey on his guide, but on a more grand scale.

BLU Spells: Cocoon, Head Butt, Blood Saber, Disseverment, Frypan, Battle Dance, Grand Slam, Temporal Shift, Actinic Burst, Plasma Charge, Saline Coat, Zephyr Mantle, Magic Fruit, Refueling

Items: Tavnazian Taco X 1 Yagudo Drink X 1 Echo Drops X 12 (These mages do silence, I only got it once, but you will need these)

Gear Setup:

Prep Work:

  • You start this fight outside in the prep work, initiate Sublimation and use regen to keep your HP up and max it out before you enter the fight. Sublimation will carry over in the fight, so max it out before entrance and you will have a hefty chunk of stored MP for this fight.
  • Put on your buffs brought on by /SCH, Protect II, Shell, Reraise (Incase you whipe your not begging for someone to come and clean you up)
  • You should probably have a macro for your Echo Drops, this way your not spending time fumbling through your items, and do what I do, is panic and use the wrong item and get screwed out of it. This is more of a personal recomendation, but is not required.

The Fight:

  • When you enter pop Dark Arts so you will get mor bang for your spells when you use Drain, Aspir (+ Alacrity), and Blood Saber. With /SCH you will notice a significant amount of HP/MP Gain from the Dark Magic Skill bonus you recieve from Dark Arts.
  • Next eat the Tavnazian Taco, and keep your Yag drink (DO NOT USE THIS! You will waste it because Yag drink does not stack on top of Sublimation. Save it until after your sublimation is used)
  • Buff yourself with Refueling, Cocoon, and Zephyr Mantle. Do not bother with Saline Coat just yet, because the mobs you will fight are DD only, you will have time later to cast it when you fight mages.
  • Go through the tunnel and reach the first room, you will see a mob of yagudo, but they will run from you. Try to run up too them and catch a few, if you hit one, 2-3 will come to assist it. Clear these out using Battle Dance and Grand Slam (Your going to use these two spells like their going out of style). Reserve your Blood Saber and higher tier AoE's (Temporal Shift, Frypan, Actinic Burst) for the fight too come. This battle requires MP conservation, so don't go wasting MP on weak mobs.
  • Do not use Disseverment here, reserve it for the Boss, these mobs have low HP, and using Disseverment would be an overkill as well as a waste of MP.
  • After you kill a few, chase after the Yagudo, and you will find yourself in a 2nd room, try to kill a few, but if you can't no worries (I didn't get any of em in the 2nd room) you won't fail because of it.
  • To the right of the 2nd room you entered from, will be the next tunnel, follow it down, but only go half way down the tunnel. This is the time to check your buffs, and make sure your not going in half cocked. Make Sure you have: Refueling, Cocoon, Zephyr Mantle, and now is the time to put on Saline Coat(will help greatly with Tier 2 spells cast on you by mages). As for /SCH spells, I would suggest poping on Regen or Regen II, this will help with your HP maintaining against the yag mob.
  • This tunnel is where you will make your final stand, I can't stress this enough but DO NOT LEAVE THIS TUNNEL. If you leave it and go into the clearing of the third room/Second room/First Room, your going to take a nasty dirt nap. The Yagudo will outflank you, outnumber you, and all and all overwhelm you. The reason for this is that the mages will stay out of range and nuke you, and you won't be able to hit as many of the mobs with your AoE spells (this is very bad). If you can funnel them into this tight space, their numbers won't mean much against BLU AoE.
  • Run out too the mouth of the tunnel that joins the tunnel to the third room, you don't need to run into the room, by the time you reach the mouth of the tunnel the mobs will have seen you and now will attack you. Do not stand at the mouth, go back into the tunnel, you don't have to go far into it, just make sure your in the tunnel, and not at the mouth or the clearing.
  • Battle Dance and Grand Slam are your bread and butter spells in this fight, with the minimum MP cost, fast recast and cast time. These spells are good too frequent. You will also use your high tier AoE's when your health starts hitting a low and you are getting wacked too much to heal yourself. Actinic Burst/Frypan/Temporal Shift will give you a good few second breather from the Yagudo Horde. I personally would save these for emergency times, however, Frypan and Temporal Shift do good dmg, so if you have a ton of them bundeled up and wanna whipe em fast, you can use these, but make sure you have at least one of them reserved for emergencies.
  • When Zephyr Mantle drops off, don't bother trying to put it back on, the amount of time you will burn trying to cast it, you will either die by the Yagudo, or get interrupted anyway. Its a good few minute buffer in this fight, but after that its as good as spent.
  • Blood Saber, Blood Saber, Blood Saber! I can't stress this spell's importance in a win enough. This spell will save your butt, and puts the concept of Vampire Mage, on Steroids. With the effect of Dark Arts + Blood Saber the amount drained is astonishing. I went from 105 HP (I got a lil careless, won't lie) to my max HP at 1356 (I am Galka). This spell will make a difference.
  • Drain and Aspir (+Alacrity) will also be strong benift tools in this fight, with Dark Arts you devour large sums of HP and MP from your enemies. However to best utilize these spells, if you Drain, Drain a DD. If you Aspir, Aspir a mage.
  • Actinic Burst is also great to blind your enemies and regain a foothold for when it becomes too overwhelming and you need a breather to regain your foothold in the fight. Conservation of MP and controlling the fight are key points in this.
  • Use Circle Blade on the mobs, it ain't much because.... well its still Circle Blade, but its the only AoE we got, so you gotta make due. Don't worry about saving TP, because I swear too you, you get so much TP in this fight for the beating you take blood tanking.
  • Chances are you've probably used your Sublimation stored MP (Do not use until your MP is low, since certain Yagudo's deaths = Full MP recovery) at least half way through the fight, in which case, when you use it, pop that Yagudo Drink, you don't want it coming back on you later.
  • Soon the boss "Laa Yaku the Austere" will appear with his final group of Yagudo. Target him, and knock off his group with the remainder of AoE's (If you got Frypan or Temporal Shift, go ahead and use em to eliminate the remainder yags, since now you can use your single target spells, Disseverment and Head Butt, to give the boss a more personal touch.)
  • Don't sweat this NM, he's super squishy, he was dropped after 2 casts of Disseverment (One of which was a Chain Affinity), an Expiacion (I kinda screwed up but made due, the better combination is what was mentioned above with

Chain Affinity>>>>Savage Blade>>>>Disseverment>>>>Distortion) and a Head Butt.

  • If your low on MP after all the yags and your on the NM, don't sweat it! Just aspir it. You can aspir and drain this NM, and the return rewards are worth it under Dark Arts.
  • Kill this NM, and his yags and your done!

Strategy Pros:

  • /SCH's Sublimation grants an extra MP pool which does not get dropped upon entry of the battle field if you charged it outside.
  • Dark Arts grants a hefty bonus in Dark Magic Skill making your drains and aspirs a hefty contributor to the fight.
  • BLU AoE's are cheap MP, fast cast and recast, making them great for this fight.
  • BLU is able to AoE Stun and Blind giving it the upper hand against hordes of enemies.
  • You also have the benefits of Regen II, Regen, Protect II, Shell, and the BLU spells Cocoon, Saline Coat, and Zephyr Mantle to add as protection against the mob of Yagudos.

Strategy Cons:

  • Yagudo Drink does not stack with Sublimation.
  • Blood tanking will be necissary, and since BLU isn't the best tank, but can tank this can cause trouble down the line if one is not familiar with blood tanking.
  • If you fight outside of the Tunnel, your AoE's will not reach the mobs, and you will die.
  • If you do not keep your buffs up, this fight will get harder as it progresses and could end in a loss.
  • You can be silenced and if so your screwed if your not on the ball with the Echo Drops. MP and Magic are vital tools in controlling the field in this fight.
  • A lack of MP conservation can be costly.

Strategy Improvements: I personally wish I would of used Plasma Charge since the additional effect of Stun that is granted through it probably would of been of help.

Final Comment: This fight is extremely fun, and feeling like your an army of 1 against a horde of Yagudos is just down right exhilirating. Especially after you beat it, you feel amazing, even if the Yagudo's are super squishy.

<BLM 75/RDM 37>

Hume - very easy

Strategy:

<BLM 75/RDM 37>

Taru - very easy

Strategy:

  • Given some damage mitigation measures damage will be reduced to very low.
    • Most hits for 0 and those that do damage under 20. This is with Protect 2, Phalanx, Terra staff and Cheviot Cape. Could throw in a taco to reduce damage further. Obviously, use Stoneskin on top of that.
    • Given that at a given time 20 yagudo can be swarming you, that will usually be enough to interrupt a Stoneskin cast, but unlikely to interrupt an elemental spell with capped skill ⇒ if stoneskin wears, stay calm, get out of the middle of the room, pause so you don't get interrupted for running, and finish them off before you recast Stoneskin.
  • Do not bother trying to get Yags before they are grouped in the big room. When you enter, run straight : there is nothing coming on your tail, don't bother going or looking behind.
  • Cast Pro/Shell outside the BC, but wait until you are looking at the big room with all the yags before using Phalanx, Stoneskin, and Aquaveil. It takes some time running there.
  • You do not want to go too slow. After a while, all yags including the NM will suddenly attack you, eating away at your Stoneskin, and making things more difficult. There is plenty of time to finish it even solo so don't rush too much, but you shouldn't just stand there doing nothing.
  • Depending on your luck, magic may come to lack. Each time you kill a pack of Yagudo, you may get a few hundred MP back (similar to what happens with some dynamis statues), but if you don't, MP may run low in the end. Consider you need 2000 MP total for this fight (including the NM kill). A Taru with high MP gear can do it in one sitting even getting unlucky at getting MP back, but a Hume may need some way of getting more MP. Keep in mind there are plenty of Aspirable targets should the situation run dire. Most people won't need to thanks to the MP boni. Obviously Manafont is also an option, though typically not required.
  • The NM is standing in the back. It's taking extra damage from magic, but nowhere close what the little guys do (I'm thinking 150%). 4-5 Thunder IV should kill it, but if MP lack, you can melee it to death with your staff as long as you keep damage mitigation gear on. You can aspir the NM.

<BLM 75/RDM 37>

Strategy:

  • The fight is still possible even when no mobs give back MP. I've done the fight twice, making some mistakes the first fight and died with 500 MP with only two mobs left (including the NM). During the second fight, due to gaining no MP back, I was left with 80 MP and an entire group of mobs left. I went on to win the fight.
  • Ensure Stoneskin is recasted when needed and use Manafont, if needed, to kill the last of the extra mobs if MP is tapped. While Manafont is still on, cast Gravity on the NM and gain enough distance and cast as many nukes as possible while Manafont is still up, so long as proper distance is kept and Stoneskin is on to mitigate damage from Holy or Banish.
  • After Manafont is up, Aspir and Drain whenever they're up.
  • Melee with Earth/Terra's Staff, damage mitigation gear and some Auto-Refresh equipment, nuking whenever Aspir makes it possible. If Stoneskin wears, Gravity and gain enough distance to recast Stoneskin and Phalanx (Blink generally isn't worth the MP if meleeing). The NM can cure himself, so running and resting for MP isn't as efficient as meleeing and Aspiring with nukes whenever possible. Even with 150 Staff skill I was able to connect with the NM often.

<DNC 75/NIN 37>

Strategy:

  • Used Tav Taco
  • Just fight with Drain Samba III or Haste Samba. Doesn't matter. Kill the enemies 1 at a time or AOE ws. Save TP for Curing Waltz IV every now and then. Keep enfeebles off with Healing Waltz. Didn't even bother with Utsusemi. Kinda like the 1000 Hearts Fight in Kingdom Hearts. When NM shows up, target it and roll.

I didn't even bother with food or healing waltz. Shodlu have used cyclone more though. Easy solo.

<DNC 75/SAM 37>

Strategy:

  • Used Tav Taco and some Hi-Potions (Doesn't hurt to be prepared ^^)
  • Used Drain Samba III to keep health up and spammed Cyclone. Meditate is really useful here. And of course keep enfeebles off when you can.
  • When fighting the nm keep Violent Flourish handy for when he casts Curaga III and Banishiga III. Oddly he never cured himself oO

<BLM 75/RDM 37>

Strategy:

Making this Strategy Better: No medicines were required to win though Echo Drops are recommended as the NM may cast Silence.

<DRG 75/SCH 37>

After trying this seven times and failing, the defense food seems to make a difference. Having no AoE attack makes this very difficult, but I managed to finally beat it. Do not take this fight lightly, so many things can go wrong with this fight. The monsters are hard to sort out in the heat of the battle, with camera going every which way and mobs spinning around you.

Strategy:

  • I managed to pick out a theologist from the mob once or twice during the fight, and was animation-locked the wrong way or out of combat about 5 minutes at least (NM fight time). BLM mobs stun, bio, poison and Sleep you, sometimes in that order, and occasional ga-spells deal inproportionate damage to their melee attacks. AoE-capable jobs that have decent defense like BLU or RDM should have a way easier time with this.

Strategy Cons:

  • Also a side note, the mobs CANNOT be slept, I found this out the hard way.

<MNK 75/PLD 37>

Decided to give this a shot on my MNK as I was most comfortable with the job. Had tried MNK/RDM using a staff the previous night, ended up with the NM and 5 normal Yagudos before I was defeated. After reading some of the other solo strategies, thought the additional defense from the /PLD sub and one of it's Job Abilities would be useful in the battle.

Strategy:

<PLD 75/RDM 37>

Strategy:

  • Rather easy. Protect/Shell, of course. Keep Phalanx and Blaze Spikes up. Spam Circle Blade at every 100TP. Enter area, and run to the first batch. Cast Flash on the furthest one ahead, this will cause all the ones behind him to link. This allows you to take them down in batches. About 3-5 should attack you. Repeat at next spot. Third fight, and hardest, will be against all of the remaining ones and the NM, this fight is right before the main room. Target mages always, this is because they usually stay out of AoE range, particularly the BLMs. By targeting the mages, you make sure AoE WS hits as many as possible. NM is the only one that doesn't drop in a few hits, but he's still very easy by himself. Finish any stragglers that didn't link in the big room. The major adversary in this fight can be lag, while trying to cast, from so many mobs. Other than that, very easy.

<PLD 75/RDM 37>

I died the first attempt due to running out of MP because the Yagudo's overwhelmed me. You might consider making a weapon skill macro

Strategy:

Strategy Cons:

  • The lag was horrible.
  • Being mobbed by so many enemies and coupled with the lag sometimes made it harder to cast Stoneskin let alone Phalanx. Stoneskin and Phalanx are optional.

<RDM 75/BLM 37>

Strategy:

  • Buff yourself once you get in Protect/Shell, Phalanx, Ice Spikes, Aquaveil, Stoneskin/Blink and Regen. Make sure you definitely keep up Stoneskin, Phalanx, and Aquaveil for this to be successful. I equiped Earth Staff, Scorpion Harness, and the rest MP+ equipment, ate Jack-o'-Lantern for the Evasion Boost. After you buff start to follow the Yagudo and pick off a few before you get to the main hall by casting Diaga on the ones you can reach and just cast Blizzaga, Thundaga, Firaga, Stonega, Waterga, and Aeroga to finish them off. When you reach the main room make sure if any buffs wore you recast them before you start fighting again. Go in and grab the Yagudo's attention and pull them to the rooms entrance and just alternate between the -ga spells you have with your /BLM sub. Just repeat this process while recasting buffs and the occasional Cure III or Cure IV until all Yagudo are dead and only the NM is left. Make sure you bring a sword and shield I had a Joyeuse and Genbu's Shield. Debuff the NM and just melee and nuke the NM until he is dead. Lag can be a problem, when casting and from all the mobs actions. This method went very well.

<RDM 75/BLU 37>

Elvaan. Convert was not required.

Strategy:

  • Notable Buffs: Tavnazian Taco + Cocoon(600+ DEF), Phalanx, 10% Physical Damage Reduction. Yagudo's melee for ~0 DMG without Stoneskin (Keep it up for spells). Focus on Mages (Priests, Theologist) and Ninjas (Herald) as the enfeebles are easily the strongest threats. Kite the NM Boss with Bind and Gravity if you need to breathe, this fight can be overwhelming if inexperienced. Circle Blade is the weapon skill of choice, but Vorpal Blade also works to kill the boss as fast as you can.

Making this Strategy Better:

  • Nuking Can be helpful.

<RDM 75/BLU 37>

Tarutaru No 2HR required

Strategy:

Strategy Cons:

  • I tried to Silence twice and both times it was resisted.

Making this Strategy Better:

  • I got silenced once, so Echo Drops couldn't hurt.
  • I expected the mobs to be low level, so I didn't bring much ACC gear. I noticed misses even with 8/8 Sword merits. If I were to do this again, I'd definitely bring more ACC gear.

<RDM 75/BLU 37>

Hume Chainspell used when SS, phalanx and cocoon were down and had 10 yagudo and NM attacking.

Strategy:

  • Buffs were: no food, Protect IV/Shell IV, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Cocoon, Ice Spikes, Enfire, Refresh, and Haste, had echo drops but did not need to use.
  • Kill the WHMs (Priests) first as they can and will cast curaga III.
  • Circle Blade and Ice Spikes alone killed most yagudo.
  • When the NM comes, start attacking it and ignore the other Yagudo.
  • Did not need to convert with refresh and the MP restoral from killing Yagudo.

Strategy Cons:

  • NIN or WHM paralyse may get you killed, but unlikely if you prioritise Phalanx as this will mitigate most melee damage.
  • BLM nukes are full powered, make sure you have Shell IV up and ready to reapply Stoneskin if it wears.
  • Trying to target the WHMs was tricky due to the large number of Yagudo, that would shift position if you moved.

Making this Strategy Better:

  • Defence food may help - if you get caught with your pants down.
  • I probably did not need to use Chainspell, but having it available would be a nice safety cushion.

<RDM 75/WHM 37>

Hume

Strategy:

  • Solo'd by Hume I wore a mix of Accuracy and Attack gear and ate a Meat Mithkabob. I spammed Cyclone to kill all the weaklings, then switched to sword for the NM. Kept Stoneskin/Phalanx/Protect/Regen/etc up as much as possible and used -na spells and Echo Drops whenever the mage types stuck an enfeeble. Otherwise fairly simple fight.

<RDM 75/WHM 37>

Mithra melee fight

Strategy:

  • Gear: Scorpion Harness, AF, and accuracy/attack accessories.
  • Food: Tavnazian Taco for extra defense.
  • Buffed up before entering: Composure, Protect IV, Shell IV, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Ice Spikes, Enblizzard II, Refresh, Aquaveil and Haste, then rested to full MP, waiting for Composure to cool down.
  • Upon entering, Phalanx, Ice Spikes, and Enblizzard II dropped, so I hit Composure again and simply recast them.
  • Don't worry about where you're supposed to go, just keep running forward, knocking off handfuls of Yags as you go until you reach the larger room on the map. There, you'll find a lovely party to crash, and the NM will pop eventually.
  • As the fight goes on, just keep your buffs up. There were a couple times where it was hard to get Stoneskin back up right away, but once it finally went through, a single Cure IV put me back at maximum. I used a dagger against the lesser mobs for Cyclone's AoE, which ended up dropping handfuls of them at a time. By the time the NM popped, there were only a couple of the little guys left. Another Cyclone while targeting the NM cleared the stragglers out. Killing off the weaklings also returned my MP to full, which was nice, but unnecessary. I switched to my sword, and the remainder of the fight with Laa Yaku the Austere was simply a trade of blows, with his being absorbed by Stoneskin and Phalanx. My spikes would occasionally paralyze him, as an added bonus.

Strategy Pros:

  • Convert wasn't needed at all, compared to my experience with a similar fight for Bastok [S], Light in the Darkness.
  • Aside from tossing out the occasional Diaga, I only really spent MP on recasting buffs, the rare Cure IV, and an occasional debuff on Laa Yaku the Austere.

Making this Strategy Better:

  • I was only using a Darksteel Baselard for the dagger portion. I'm sure a stronger and/or faster dagger would have put the weaker mobs down even more efficiently.

<SMN 75/WHM 37>

Strategy:

<THF 75/DNC 37>

Strategy:

  • Items: 5 Hi-Potions, Au Lait, Icarus Wing, Tavnazian Taco, Bloody Bolts . Trick to this is only 5 mobs can attack you at any given time, the rest will de-aggro until one of the mobs dies, remember this it's important later. Put Reraise up and eat food before entering, Reraise won't be useful unless you kill the NM, it will wear off when your kicked and the NM will hover over you until you are kicked so no Reraise in BC unless it's killed. Entered arena and popped the wing picked off 2 or 3 of the Yagudo as they moved through the tunnel until they got to the spot they all stopped at. Pulled the mess of them in the hall so I could autotarget easier and unloaded a Cyclone, got some HP and TP mobs off that so it didn't affect my TP for healing. Paralyze was the only debuff I worried about erasing. If things get to hairy flee off and use some potions/cure waltz's then re-engage. This is a war of attrition until the NM spawns, try to focus on killing BLM type mobs as they do the most damage but also die pretty fast. When the NM spawned I flee'd and got myself full HP, here is the tricky part, you want to have 5 mobs of YOUR choice on you while fighting NM, no more than 1 WHM and 1 BLM as the nukes from more than 1 become troublesome and they will wear you down with the added curing from another WHM. Try not to get any NIN's as they debuff more often than the whm with slow and paralyze. Keep Drain Samba up and cure as needed, around 30% he will start curing himself with Cure V and Curaga III, keep at him and don't fire off any weapon skills unless you are positive it will kill him (Failed twice cause I got flustered near the end).
  • I actually solo'd this without the use of any HP items. I popped a Sole Sushi and a Reraise Hairpin before checking the Colored Door. My gear was pretty standard for any high lvl thf, Scorpion harness, Evasion torque, war gloves +1. It got hairy a few times, but cured myself with ease when I used flee to get myself some distance. The big factor i found, was the use of a shield. I had Blau dolch in mainhand and Tatami Shield in offhand, and that helped block/absorb damage a bit. Drain Samba II is key as well, keep that up the whole time and you wont have much problem with these yags. GL^^

<THF 75/NIN 37>

Things ended horribly. Best I was able to do was make it past the first wave. (Attempt)

Strategy:

  • Equip lots of evasion gear, and rely on the occasional Yagudo to fully heal you. I suppose it's not a reliable way to win, but I can testify it's possible. Keep spamming Bloody Bolts, and a whole lot of them, and launch Cyclone on the mages once TP reaches 100%. In my case, Cyclone killed all Yagudo from full health. When you're up to the NM, make sure to keep your health full because Banishga III rips through your shadows, the other spells can be blocked by Utsusemi.

<WHM 75/BLM 37>

Failed attempt

Strategy:

  • almost successfully solo with nothing special. pull into hallway and hack away, using Earth Crusher whenever you have TP and Diaga and Banishga as well. Got all of them except the NM, and I was doing ok against him except I ran out of MP. Had him at about 75%.

Making this Strategy Better:

<WHM 75/BLM 37>

  • Like the other mage-only strats, grab yourself an Earth Staff. Also in my setup was a Medicine Earring. The latent effect on it is active when your HP is in the red, but it'll buy tons of needed time. Before you enter, cast your highest Protect and Shell spell on yourself, as well as Stoneskin and Aquaveil. Follow the Yagudo to the room, where they'll turn on you and start attacking. When they do that, run back into the hallway and wait for them there. There is no need to use Diaga or Banishga at all, but if your staff skill is very low, you might need Diaga. Then again, my staff skill is only 153 and most of them died from that. Let them beat on you while you're engaged, and use Earth Crusher when you have the TP for it. Stay engaged and keep building up TP. After each Earth Crusher, Cure V yourself. Don't worry about switching to a Light Staff, you need the damage reduction of an Earth Staff. Once only the NM is left, switch to your best weapon (I used my Darksteel Maul and Numinous Shield..... nothing fancy here) and start wailing on the guy. Enfeeble him if you can, and keep up Haste and Regen III . If you get Silenced , don't waste the Echo Drops, just wait it out, should go away after about 15 seconds. No items used.

<WHM 75/BLM 37>

Strategy:

  • Took me a few tries to get it right, but once I got the rhythm down it wasn't too hard. I buffed with Protect/Shell V, Stoneskin, Blink, and Aquaveil, then entered. Inside I cast Haste and Ice Spikes right before I went into the chamber. My gear consisted of standard mage stuff, no fancy melee gear. Cleric's cap, Noble's tunic, Healers Mitts +1, Cleric's pantaloons, Tamas Ring, Goliard clogs, etc. I did make sure to avoid any negative HP gear. I followed them to the chamber, then ran into the hall to fight them. I used an Earth Staff and Earth Crusher, just biding my time until the NM came. I always kept Ice Spikes up as often as I could manage to cast it. Ice Spikes really saved me here. Once the NM appeared, I finished the little Yagudo so it was just me and him. Switched to a club, erased all my status ailments, buffed up again, and beat him up. Kept Ice Spikes up, Flashed him a couple times to cast Stoneskin. Only items I used was one Meat Mithkabob and one Ether because I ran out of MP fighting the NM. Kalanie

<WHM 75/SCH 37>

Strategy:

  • I won this on my first try. I pretty much followed the same strategy as the WHM/BLM ones above (Earth Staff + Earth Crusher, Cure V when low), though my staff skill is considerably higher (218). I went in with a full Sublimation charge but didn't have to use it until the NM was nearly dead. While fighting the NM I only used Penury once or twice for Cure V and Celerity for a Stoneskin that I probably didn't need. I noticed that my spellcasting wasn't interrupted even once throughout the whole fight, minions included. The NM used Cure V and Curaga III once each (620 and 380 respectively) but didn't pose a threat since my Hexa Strikes were doing 500-600+. I wouldn't consider my gear fancy: I had a Seawolf Cudgel, Tariqah, Walahra Turban, Noble's Tunic, Blessed hands legs and feet, two Courage Rings, and a Life Belt. I didn't use any items. Theodus

<WHM 75/NIN 37>

Strategy:

  • Buffed with Protect IV, Shell V, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Haste, Regen III, and Utsusemi: Ni. Used a Terra's Staff and did the Earth Crusher strategies seen above. Used Benediction when a Silence lasted until I was in the red. Didn't bother casting shadows while I fought with the little Yagudos; there are too many and they attack too fast. When the NM came I switched target to him, still using a Terra's Staff and using Earth Crusher to finish off the last of the little minions around us, finally using Banishga when they started healing themselves. When it was just me and the NM I switched to two clubs and proceeded to loosely blink tank. I say loosely because it's sometimes difficult to keep up shadows against him. He doesn't attack slow, and he'll throw out a Diaga II here and there. I mainly used Shadows to buffer my health once in a while when I wanted to conserve MP. Kept Haste up at all times, didn't bother recasting Stoneskin after it wore the first time, and just bombed myself with a Cure V every time I got ~250 HP (with about 1050 HP max). When I got low on MP I used a Divine Seal + Cure III while I took off the last 10% of his health or so. Hexa Strike was doing ~1013 consistently. I didn't use a Medicine Earring and I never had an issue. No items used.

<WHM 75/PLD 37>

No 2HR required on 3-14-2008

Strategy:

<WHM 75/RDM 37>

Either equip yourself with a genbu shield or an earth staff, generally it's easier with an earth staff as you'll have an AoE weapon skill at your disposal. Follow the guide line below and you shouldn't need items or benediction.

Strategy:

  • Started with 101 staff skill and you get skill ups in here. High club skill (at least 220) is advised however.
    • Only real difference from your regular mage equipment is an Earth Staff, perhaps combined with some accuracy pieces. Bringing Echo Drops would be a good idea incase you get silenced, no other items (not even food) were used.
    • Main spells were Phalanx, Regen III and Banishga II, and of course, Protect, Shell and reraise before entry. Start with Stoneskin but don't bother recasting it. Cures aren't required if you're on time with Regen III and keep Phalanx up every second.
    • Don't fight the yagudo on the spot, drag them further away, roughly 3-4 rooms, from the main one where they gather. This prevents you from being overrun. Combine Earth Crusher with a t1 Banishga , Earth Crusher didn't kill every yagudo with 101 staff skill, followed up with a Banishga did.
    • Once Laa Yaku the Austere appears, clear them out with Banishga II, throw a t1 Banishga if not every single one of his minions died. Fight Laa Yaku the Austere like you normally do when soloing as a WHM.

<WHM 75/WAR 37>

Strategy:

<WHM 75/BLM 31>

Tips: No strategy, just some tips. If you're attempting this as WHM then you likely know enough about WHM melee to handle your own strategizing.

  • Came in exp party gear. Medicine Ring, if you don't have one, you shouldn't be soloing. Life Belt, you really don't need this, everything in here seems to be 50 or below in stats, but I didn't want half of my Hexa Strike to miss on the NM. Invigorating Cape, I don't know if it's raw luck or the evasion on this thing, but I dodge so many things. Probably just luck. Chivalrous Chain, probably didn't need this either, but it can't hurt. Earth Staff with Platinum Grip, any grip with Double Attack or Delay- would have been better, didn't have one, and you don't need it. Spartan Hoplon, so very useful, pop this if you switch to club+shield for the NM, but make sure to kill the babies first.
  • If you have Stoneskin up, or enough spell interrupt gear/merits, Aspir is your friend, still not very good though. Aspir hit the NM for 3 mp, tried a few minutes later with Elemental Seal, got 34.
  • Staff skill is easy to get to 150 by yourself, and that's all you need for this. A few mobs at a time wouldn't go down with one Earth Crusher, but they were WHM mobs, so I'm assuming they had Stoneskin up.
  • Don't panic. If you're running low on mp, use Benediction. Your biggest problem in this fight is simply aggravation. The NM is also a WHM and I had him cast two Cure Vs and a Curaga III towards the end. Silence wasn't sticking either.
  • Maybe you can be smarter than me and Elemental Seal + Silence to stop his Cures when he gets low. Or maybe you'll just unload on him with Morgenstern. I hate every last one of you that has it, because I can't get one.

DUO STRATEGIES

<RNG75/NIN37 & BLM75/RDM37>

Strategy: I, the RNG, had a spare hi-potion tank leftover from previous wins in Assault so I had popped like 8 of those while waiting for the BLM to get to the location. We went in, waited for the Yagudo to start moving, then when we got to the large room, I basically gathered them up into an area while he manafont/tier 3-ga nuked all the Yagudo. I didn't worry about shadows because there were too many of them to bother, because as soon as they went up, they came off. I just kept popping the potions, and ran out just as the last wave was coming. I shadowbound the NM before he got close to us to give the BLM time to finish nuking, then because of the auto-tp drops from the mobs, sidewinder >> barrage >> sidewinder >> eagle eye shot >> few blm nukes ... NM death. A very easy fight, fun too.

Strategy:

<BLU/RDM & WHM/SCH>

Tarutarux2

Strategy:

<BLM75/RDM37 & WAR75/SAM37 >

Strategy:

  • Won this battle on the 2nd run with my friend. First time we were killed by the boss because I concentrated on nuking more then healing. The second time I made sure that the WAR HP didn't fall below 50%. Blizzaga II will kill any other Yagudo. So what I did was one -ga II spell, then heal till enough mobs gather. When NM popped, I just kept healing my friend. Also, WAR new job ability "Retaliation" was good in this since all mobs facing the Warrior will be affected.Vexan 02:01, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

<MNK75/WAR37 & DRG75/WHM37 >

Strategy:

  • Buffed before entering, and went smoothly... On second try. Note to DRGs, possible Wyvern screwup because of the Yagudo overload, need to heal manually. Once that was taken care of, and the healing was working, easily done. AoE Spinning Attack by the MNK and alot of curing. The Yagudo drop fast enough to fill MP and TP and keep things rolling. No items used.

<RDM75/BLU37 & WHM75/SMN37 >

  • WHM had to Reraise once due to pulling hate without Stoneskin on. Spikes spells help in this fight due to the number of enemies to take on.

<SMN75/WHM37 x2>

Strategy:

<SMN75/WHM37 & WHM75/BLM37 >

Basically anything with AoE will really shine here.

Strategy:

  • Easy. Soloable by a 75 DRG/BLU with few-to-no MP meds.

<THF75/NIN37 & RDM75/BLM >

Strategy:

  • Used a combination of low tier -gas and Cyclone. Keep buff spells up. For the [[RDM], -gas and Cyclone should be second priority to keeping the THF tank alive. Very easy duo.

BLU75/PLD37, RDM75/BLM37 June 24th 2009

No 2HR needed. Very straightforward.

Strategy:

  • As soon as the battle starts, get your buffs up, Zephyr Mantle, Cocoon(make sure this stays up), let the RDM haste you, it's more effective, saves you the mp, and the spell setting points can be used for something else. For the normal mobs, I spammed Body Slam and Battle Dance alternately, keeping Cocoon up and Auto-target fighting the others the whole time. The RDM spammed -ga2 spells and Auto-target fought throughout the entirity as well. We killed all Yagudos and the NM in little under 10 minutes.
  • As BLU, I used Tavnazian Taco, no drinks, no medications.RDM used a Melon Pie +1,Refresh for both of us was all that was needed.
  • Fighting in the tunnel right at the mouth of the big room is ideal. You can run into the big room a little, agro them, and pull them back into the tunnel. Eventually they will just bumrush you anyway so being in the tunnel helps to keep them all bottled up and in range of your aoes.

Strategy Pros:

  • BLU/PLD makes a great combination for the Defense needed for this battle. I had 713 with Pro 4, Cocoon, Tav Taco, and my Equipment.
  • This works well because if the RDM ever gets hate you can cover them and continue with the slaughter. And a constant stream of refresh while spamming is great.

Strategy Cons:

  • You want to make sure you have the vitality and defense to be able to take a good deal of dmg, also if you try wasting to much time curing yourself, you won't have such a good time.
  • Having the RDM toss the occassional cures puts a strain on the nuking power and the BLU has more work to do.
  • The HP and MP strains if ever a problem can always be combated with a Yag. Drink and a Persikos au Lait. We just didn't want to waste money buying a bunch of items for a fight we figured we'd win anyway.

<PLD75/DNC37 & BLM74/WHM36 >

Strategy:

  • PLD runs into the mobs and aggroes as many as possible, having Protect IV and Reprisal on. The mob waves happen fast, so with this strategy, after the initial aggro, the PLDs job is to keep the BLM alive. Killing the yagudo randomly fills up your MP/HP/TP to max. Being a PLD/DNC I was able to spam Cure IV and Curing Waltz II non-stop thanks to the little bonuses, and keep things under control. Once the NM pops the PLD does his regular tanking job, while the two of you take him down. Not even close to the best duo combination because TRUE TEAMWORK is needed on both parts, as well as neither of you panicking. Makes for a highly exiting fight and and even greater sense of accomplishment if successful, none the less, a low difficulty battle.

TRIO STRATEGIES

<SAM71/BLU35, WHM70/SMN30, DRK70/SAM35>

  • Pretty straightforward. Before entering the battlefield, I (SAM/BLU) casted Metallic Body onto myself and the WHM/SMN casted Aerial Armor on the party. In hindsight, I should have used Cocoon as well. Once we got inside, the Yags completely ignored us until the last room. When they initially aggroed, our WHM was the first thing they saw and began automatically attacking her. I got in position right next to her and cast Grand Slam - everything paid attention to me after that point. Our DRK was spamming Shockwave whenever he got the TP, and our WHM was doing the same with Earth Crusher. Without any AoE WS's, I played backup and made sure that whatever hate the WHM accumulated would transfer to me when I used either Grand Slam or Claw Cyclone. MP was restored periodically thanks to some Yags, HP as well. When Laa Yaku the Austere showed up, no more Yags spawned after him (or we wiped them out that quickly, I'm not entirely sure) and we were left to fight him without anymore interference. He went down relatively fast.

Making this Strategy Better:

  • <This section lists off things that can be improved to make the strategy work better, such as certain (possibly expensive) changes to armor, weapons, food, or drink, that can improve your chances of success or the speed at which you complete the fight>
  • <These considerations are not the ones that are required for the strategy, but would certainly help>

Alternative Strategy:

  • <This entirely optional section is for job combinations that have multiple strategies. This is merely an extension of the same combination, but should be treated the same as the previous sections>

Other Strategies:

  • <This section is put last, and lists off different job combinations that are similar to strategies listed above, that do not need a full explanation, as the basic strategies are already listed above.
