Chocobo Digging

Chocobo Digging is a hobby in FFXI in which you use Gysahl Greens to get chocobos to dig up potentially valuable items. The items vary by zone and rarity. All that you need in order to dig is to ride a chocobo, have Gysahl Greens in your inventory, and select the dig command from the menu options. Each time you use the dig command, one bunch of Gysahl Greens is removed from your inventory.

As of the March 2026 Version Update, players may now see their current Wing Skill, a value that modifies the time required between digging attempts and the time required upon entering a zone before a Chocobo will allow you to use the Dig command. Speak with any of the following NPCs to see your current Wing Skill.

You are limited to 100 successful digs per day; a tally that resets every Earth day at JP midnight. After this, you will only receive the "You dig and you dig, but find nothing." message, but will still consume Gysahl Greens.

Note this is digs, not items, as you may obtain more than one item from a successful dig.
Non-item successes, eg caches of Conquest Points, also count toward this limit.
