Karuberu - Monster Template
Heya. I always thought it looked a bit weird how the <zone> part in monster pages is aligned to the left side of the box. In my opinion, it looks better when centered like in my memo/test page here and here. There's the name of the monster as well but don't let it distract you. I'm sure you get my point though. ^^
Anyways, what do you think?

Haha, yeah I've felt the exact same thing. It's a bit odd with the drops aligned to the left and if we'd align those to the center, it wouldn't look too good. But ye, I really like the zone in the center more, definitely. Sore wa sore, kore wa kore... 21:19, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
About Multiple, Identical Loot
I know this has been talked a lot here and there but I never really saw any real conclusion for it. I noticed your edit on the ram, which is one of those that had been changed to "add just 1 for multiple" by others, not me, but I do agree with this way, because over 100% just does not make sense in my opinion.
Sure, I can see why people go with the "drop rate can go over 100% with multiples" but I just don't agree with it, because in sense, it would mean that if I go kill one, I would always get something, which is not true. This is why I'd prefer the way of counting multiples as one though more than that, I'd like to count 1 as its own, and have another column for the ones exceeding that like we already do have on some pages.
Meaning something along the lines of:
- Lanolin (???%)
- Ram Horn (???%)
- Ram Horn x2 (???%)
- Ram Skin (???%)
- Ram Skin x2 (???%)
- Ram Skin x3 (???%)
- Ram Skin x4 (???%)
- Ram Skin x5 (???%)
- Ram Skin x6 (???%)
Anyways, I just don't like the 100% plus idea. Trasure Hunter already skews the results enough heh, but in the end, I don't really care about the drop rates after all. If something drops, it drops. If not, then we try again!
Anyways, just my thoughts. :]
--Sore wa sore, kore wa kore... 03:03, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, forgot to mention why I did the (0-2). That's because on many pages I see different variations of (0 to 2) and so on. I think (0-2) is easier to remember, for everyone what comes to formatting! ^^
--Sore wa sore, kore wa kore... 03:04, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I figured the "(up to x#)" thing and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but I see it often vary a little so I was thinking if it could be something "easier to remember" hehe.
Anyways, I've actually been thinking a long time that there should, and why shouldn't there be, a template just for multidrop. I think it could make things better, or at least I would personally like it over having a rate >100%, not that I can't live with it, but it just seems funky. I do like both of the ideas you brought up a lot, perhaps a bit more of the 'new template just for this' since like you said, modifying the old might just bring up unneeded confusion as it doesn't exactly happen with every drop. I don't think I could think of anything better at least for the time being and if nothing is being done about this, there will always be some who want to add all, and others who want to count them as one, me thinks.

Great! An yeah, time does fly indeed. >.< --Sore wa sore, kore wa kore... 15:42, August 16, 2010 (UTC)
Guild Resale Price
Hallo. What do you think about creating a little simple template similar to {{Resale Price}}, for the Guild Price? Often I see the Guild Price added and mixed with the regular, Standard Merchant price and that's not exactly a good thing in my opinion. Thus, I think a separate {{Guild Price}} or something would be good, as some people already are adding it like that, into the same box with Resale Price, but if it's a link, it's a red one and if not a link, then it is just plain (and varying) "Guild Price:".
Now, where would it link, though? The Resale Price links to the Standard Merchant page so perhaps the Guild one should link to Guild Merchant. It is not too useful, however.
One idea I had, would link it to one of the Guild Shops in question, or to a list of Guild Merchants. Perhaps the template could have more than the function of linking to a page? As in, {{Guild Price|100|200|Smithing}}. I don't know how it would be best made really, but you get the idea from this, I'm sure. --Sore wa sore, kore wa kore... 14:26, August 28, 2010 (UTC)
Mmm, good points. I think this "issue" has been more apparent to me as of late because I've been fishing a lot (several days ugh...) and while a lot of fishies are sold to, but not purchased from the guild, a lot of times the Guild price has been mentioned below the regular price (or mixed in with the regular one). Would be nice if you can come up with something for it, and I'm sure you can!
Now, let's see if my first try at a custom signature works as intented and doesn't break anything... ;V « The Noob Unlimited » 08:35, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
OK, good job as usual. I like it! « The Noob Unlimited » 08:20, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
The founders and administrators of FFXIclopedia and Eorzeapedia, together with the podcast gurus over at Pet Food Alpha, Limit Break Radio and the Aetheryte Radio Network - are excited to announce their newest project - Gamerescape.com. Gamer Escape draws upon, and expands on, our collective experiences. We're combining the wiki platforms where you can get your information, podcasting platforms where you can listen to your favorite podcasting personalities, wordpress/news platform so you can quickly see what is going on with your favorite game, and of course, forums to allow you to discuss everything game related with the community.
What does that mean for FFXIclopedia?
We've copied the FFXIclopedia wiki content over to Gamerescape in order to seed and expand upon the wiki over there. FFXIclopedia will, of course, remain at Wikia and remain open and available for editing. To be clear, while there have been a few rather public departures from Wikia in the past few months, they are not a factor in our decision. The reality is that Wikia provides a great service for wikis and was a fine home for the past few years. They allow anyone with one click to try their hand at starting a wiki and a community. That is invaluable and, looking at Wikia's growth, has served them well. In light of some the recent public departures, we feel it was important to make this clear.
We are making this announcement because (i) we are truly excited about what we're launching; and (ii) you, the community, should know that the founders and some of the current admins and moderators will not be here, but will be developing the FFXI wiki/forums over at gamerescape.
What else is over at Gamerescape?
In addition to the content from the FFXIclopedia wiki, we have integrated Eorzeapedia - so all of your FFXI and FFXIV information is on the same site, just a click or two away. Also, in addition to FFXI and FFXIV, we've launched WakfuEscape, a platform dedicated to the upcoming Wakfu MMO (distributed by Square Enix). Complete with news platforms, forums and podcasts - we're continuing in our efforts to provide a site where you can get all of your gaming information without having to jump from site to site.
We've learned a lot since 2004 when we started FFXIclopedia, a lot of which is reflected in our new FFXIV and Wakfu wikis. We remain nothing more than a group of gamers at heart who enjoy playing games and helping the community develop a resource for those games. We're looking forward to continuing that effort over at GamerEscape.com. We hope to see all of you there.
PS. For those that have an Eorzeapedia.com account - your log-in credentials should work at any GamerEscape.com site.

Rename annoyance for a guide.
I wrote a cooking guide a while ago; the problem is I can't seem to rename it after I updated it to 110. Could you please rename it to Cooking, Post Abyssea so I won't have to ask for this again? Thanks. (I'd post the link but it won't let me.) --Elizara (talk) 15:36, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. I just fixed the link on the cooking page as well. --Elizara (talk) 22:29, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Directions to Locations (Section, Guide, Category, etc)
Hello,
I'm finding a good bit of battle preparation time goes to both figuring out how to get to a specific location *as well as* getting there, when my plans don't work out. As I believe in learning from the mistakes of others (when possible), after all why reinvent the wheel (instead make it better, this time around), my hope is to find out how others get to point A from point B.
Thus I'm wondering if a directions section (template update), guide, page, category, or some other method might be possible to add to templates, etc. An example are the Orichalcumshell (Crabs at C-9 in Mount Zhayolm). I can see at least 2 ways there and think there might be a third way. I'm not sure, which one is the easiest / quickest nor the requirements (e.g. keys, etc) to pass through each gate. Learning from other people would be GREAT!!
My initial thought was a guide, but generally I think of one person (or group) doing a guide and not everyone. My goal / desires is everyone who has directions and opinions on the best way to get to a location could / would contribute. Additionally, as part of the various templates (e.g. monster, etc), it would be easier to find and encourage updating/adding by each actively participating member. I'm not sure how to proceed with this idea, though, and would appreciate guidance.
Thanks, --IBHalliwell (talk) 06:40, December 19, 2012 (UTC)
Hello again and thank you for your very positive feedback (on my talk page) about the monster template update for directions. I agree with you on the length, etc. and the need to go to a section on the talk page (how, though, does this work as some people might not know to put it there or what is a short vs. long length. Again great feedback and if I can help, please, let me know. --IBHalliwell (talk) 20:22, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for the update on my talk page, as well as the {{Monster Information}} template. I randomly picked a monster and noticed it isn't using this new template. Thus I'm wondering how can we go about adding this template to all the various monsters *and* how do you see it fitting on the page (e.g. location on the page).
Is there a way to globally update all the monster pages with the new template or will someone or a group of people need to do this individually for each monster?
Thought / suggestion: I was looking at the example from which you took the new template and am wondering shouldn't it, also have a directions line? As a NM is also a monster and finding it, well, shouldn't it have the same line? Again thanks! --IBHalliwell (talk) 00:51, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you so very much. Ah, where is the NM template you modified? I was looking at where I thought it should be, but didn't see the change. So, please, help me find it. Thanks!
As for monsters, guess, I'll now have the opportunity to raise my "level" on this wikia. ;-) --IBHalliwell (talk) 07:37, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
OK, second message since your last one. I was adding the template to the River Crab and something struck me. How to handle the directions when the monster exists in many different areas, such as the River Crab. As the designer of this template, I'd appreciate your viewpoint. Honestly, I gave it thought and none of the ideas crossing my mind work well.
Yes, I know River Crab might not be the best first pick, but it is the one showing a difficult case for multiple zones. I actually was working on the original monster that gave me the idea for the template, which is in two areas. It was then I realized the template looks to be one zone only or at least in my limited knowledge of the wikia scripting language. (Yeah, I edit by example not because I RTFM - sorry. --IBHalliwell (talk) 07:56, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you so very much for the reply and help! :-) On the coordinates, I've been using them for quite awhile and really appreciate them. Unfortunately, sometimes knowing the location isn't enough. Why? I can't tell the best way to get to an area by simply looping at a map.
An examples are the Orichalcumshell Crab at C-9 on Mount Zhayolm (the Vozold Island. When using the maps, I can see at least two paths, but I'm not sure of (A) which is the (e.g. easiest and/or quickest) and (B) what items a character needs to use each path (e..g keys, key item, etc). Thus the directions section can help in these situations (at least that is my hope) and your help has been great!!
I'm wondering if you can direct me to a place to read up / learn about the Wikia markup language, please. While I've been learning by looking at other people's usage, I'm finding this method limiting as I'm providing more contributions.
Oh, P.S. I thought there was a way to see how active in contributions someone has been by looking at a level (e.g. Easy Prey, Decent Challenge, etc). I can vaguely remember seeing a list of people and their level. It was how I was able (at one time) to find experienced people and look at their contributions / changes. For the life of me, I can't remember or figure out where it is or how I found it last time. Can you help me, please? (Maybe I'm confusing it with another FFXI website, but I think it was here.) --IBHalliwell (talk) 06:00, January 25, 2013 (UTC)
Please Assist
There is a repeat offender who continues to come back with a new account after he's been banned just to create false NM pages reporting leech behavoir of another player and advertizes his websites containing the same information. Right now he is going by the name User:Semanticdrifterr (one letter different from the name of the wiki staff member that banned him last time) and the current page he's currently maintaining is Kulazulaa NM. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Toadie on Siren (talk) 17:02, January 10, 2013 (UTC)
RE: RE: Please Assist
Thank you, I understand the difficulty of the problem. I wonder though if a spam filter of some kind can be put up to help mitigate his behavior? Toadie on Siren (talk) 01:05, January 11, 2013 (UTC)

Final Fantasy XIV Beta & Writing Project?
Hey there Karuberu! (I'm also copying this message to Cemalidor and Tahngarthor)
My name is Jorge and I am on Wikia's Community Development team. Square Enix recently reached out to us about hooking up some of the FFXI wiki community with access to the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta! As a strong MMO FF community, you would all be a perfect fit. Pretty soon we should have from 3-5 codes for the Final Fantasy community for anyone willing to play the game and over a few weeks, chronicle their time in the game in a sort of travelogue, just a few paragraphs each.
Tomorrow or Friday, we'll likely make a blog post announcing the opportunity with the intent of posting everyone's pieces by the June 24th. We'd love to make an article page on the wiki so players can leave their thoughts on their own. I just want to check in to see if that's OK with you. Alternatively, we could have players send in their thoughts by email and I can collect them all for a blog.
Anyway, let me know what you think about, if you have suggestions for what you think you would want folks to write about, and of course let me know if you want to get beta access too! Just leave me a message on my talk page.
Best, Jorge (profile)•(talk) 03:10, June 6, 2013 (UTC)
ps: Oh, we did something similar, albeit a bit more fan-fiction like, for SimCity awhile back if you were curious for an example: http://simcity.wikia.com/wiki/SimCity_Stories.
Necessity for Removal of Indentations Before Charts
Hello Karuberu,
I left a message for you on Talk:Item Template. In addition to what I said there, there is absolutely no way that the indentations can be restored to charts unless the Wiki layout is redesigned (a redesign to widen the wiki and eliminate the left and right borders is something I fully support). User settings can eliminate the width issue, but by default, and when visitors are not logged in, the wiki text area is comparatively small compared to the total width of the screen. The width of the wiki was substantially reduced a few years back, and it created tons of horizontal scroll bars on charts. Examples of charts that absolutely cannot be indented exist on many pages, including Category:Monipulators, Adventuring Fellow, Category:Zeni Notorious Monsters, Category:Abyssea, and many more. Although many old pages are still indented, the hundreds of pages created in the past few years have had no indentations before charts, and I think that this should be the wiki standard. Simply because item charts will be smaller than most charts on the site doesn't mean that they should be the only indented charts.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 16:56, January 26, 2014 (UTC)
Key Moments of MMO History Video Narration
Hey there Karuberu, my name is Doug and I'm a member of Wikia's Community Development Team! Wikia is creating an exciting Key Moments of MMO History video that will showcase several amazing games of the genre. We're looking for admins of MMO wikis who would be interested in submitting a short vocal narration about their game of choice.
We want to ask you the question What is the most important moment in Final Fantasy XI's History?
If you're interested, please record an MP3 voice narration of your answer, a few sentences to a small paragraph is fine. If you have no recording software and are still interested, we can schedule a Skype call to record! Please send the finished recording to doug@wikia-inc.com and you'll be featured in the video to represent your community! Thank you, happy editing, and have a good one!
