Feedback on FFXIclopedia

This is stuff I want to see fixed/changed! Please discuss. -- Haldarn (talk) 10:47, May 14, 2016 (UTC)

  • Each article page should contain a section at the end of auto-generated backlinks using the following code:
==See Also==
{{#dpl:linksto = pagename}}
Update: I've created Template:SeeAlso to include as the last line on item pages (and elsewhere if you like!)
  • The Rare / Exclusive images look like shit. Why aren't we using the graphics from in-game Rare / Exclusive on the template?
  • Mouseover the maps making them appear as tooltips is broken and ugly. The maps pop-up half-offscreen and can't be clicked. Useless - remove them and then undertake a revision of the tooltip code to see if they're functional.
  • Speaking of tooltips, why the heck don't item links display a tooltip image of the item on mouseover like every other gaming wiki?
  • The dual-column approach to all item and zone pages is awful. It was nice before Wikia, but the reduction in visible width available has made this layout more trouble than it's worth. Item pages should be three sections: Statistics | Used for | Obtained from, each with the necessary subcategories.
  • Templates are fine when used properly, but this site and it's successor at Gamerescape went template-mad - what was supposed to make things easier for the community to enter ended up being confusing, but more importantly, taking away from what a wiki is about - user editing. To say that a user can't copy and paste a page format from a standard page so therefore lets have dozens of nested templates is disingenuous. Down with overuse of templates!
  • The forums are no longer curated. The social aspect of the site is suffering. It makes it nigh on impossible to discuss major changes with active users.
  • Blogs are linked to the forum and not the Wikia blogs, which aren't encouraged.
  • Still loads of Gamerescape announcements around the site - it was six years ago, take 'em down. But, we should link to Windower, FFXIAH, Guildwork, BGWIki and GamerEscape.
  • Give admin privileges for the site to the users!

Shadow Throne

Well, is it the Atma of the Apocalypse or the Atma of the Savior then? I got both of those years ago, so I can't really go back and check unless I *gag* start over on an alt. --Rosalie (talk) 02:13, May 30, 2016 (UTC)

Definitely could be! I have neither, though I am currently working up to it. Proccing Red on Shinryu on BLM/WHM with Trusts is proving to be... time consuming lol. --Haldarn (talk) 12:48, May 31, 2016 (UTC)

Admin Privelages

I'm not a full-blown admin, so I can't promote anyone, unfortunately... --04:43, June 5, 2016 (UTC)

FFWiki Merge

Hey there! I've heard from Bert you've been trying to help bolster activity around here and sort out the forums. I'd just like to offer a possible future for FFXIclopedia's content: merging it with the main Final Fantasy Wiki.

The main Final Fantasy wiki is very active with a large community (many of whom have played the game), and plenty of templates and Lua modules already set up. An example is our FFXIV Database, at w:c:finalfantasy:Module:FFXIV Data. This is something I, or any of you guys, could easily set up for FFXI as well.

If you were to merge, you'd have the help of a broader community of editors willing to help you out, and FFXI coverage can live on there. You can take advantage of our on-wiki forums and our Discussions which I believe you've heard about. And ultimately, updates could be much more regular, and the wiki would be visited long after FFXI has run its course.

Of course, there would be a few compromises that would need to be made. For instance, we don't make pages on the FFWiki for every enemy or item, instead we put them in list pages. In FFXI's case, probably in a module where updating the module would update the data on all pages. Some templates might not be ported over, and obviously category names would need to be changed. I'm willing to help out with the conversion.

If you get this message, please get back to me if interested. If so, we can probably get consensus of both communities. Thanks!--V Technobliterator TC 17:38, August 15, 2016 (UTC)

Ah, I see. Well, page layouts/template discussions aren't things you'd need to be too concerned about were the merge to take place, the FFWiki has those things already set and we'd be happy to open dialogue about them when it comes to FFXI coverage on it.
I could message those guys about a possible merge, but do you think it'd be possible to also discuss a merge more broadly with the FFXIclopedia community?--V Technobliterator TC 23:29, September 1, 2016 (UTC)

Editing your profil

Sorr it took me so long to answer, but in my defense i'm rather seldom here. Unfortunately i'm unable to edit your profil, i'd suggest to contact a wikia staff member if you didn't already. Cemalidor (talk) 16:39, September 18, 2016 (UTC)

Greetings from BG

If you are ever interested in joining the team over at BG Wiki and leaving behind the stagnation of clopedia. Then we would be happy to have you. Unfortunately as great as clopedia once was, it was sold off and left to rot. The more time progresses the more and more behind this site is.

By comparison we are very active over at BG, and in the past 3 years have grown leaps and bounds. There are various avenues of communication between the team, and the community sites, we get feedback from players, etc.

So, GE is essentially dead and this site is very stagnant. On behalf of the administration team, we would like to welcome you to the fold if you are interested.
