鬼縛り (onishibari) is the Japanese name for Daphne pseudomezereum, a shrub native to Japan and Korea that sheds its leaves in the summer.(Wikipedia Japan) The name does mean "Ogre-binder," referring to the tough branches of the bush, thought to be strong enough to hold onto the tough beasts of Japanese folklore without breaking.
