Yaanei

Job: Black Mage / Monk
Family: Caturae
Weak to: Wind, Fire

Notorious Monster
Title Obtained: Yaanei Crasher

Spawn Conditions

  • Spawns on top of Tor Mountain exactly at 15:00.
    • Observed to spawn at 15:00 multiple times.
  • Start of ramp for mountiain is south of Veridical Conflux # 5

Traits and Abilities

  • Moves at 12% enhanced speed.
  • Possesses high defense.

Spellcasting

  • Possesses an unusually wide aggro range.
  • Extremely resistant to Head Butt.
  • Susceptible to Paralyze, but Highly resistant.
  • Mages are advised to stay beyond 20 yalms to avoid damage from AoEs.
  • Can be easily pulled down the mountain to Veridical Conflux #3.
  • Besieger's Bane can be countered with Terror Screen and by keeping the tank's HP high before it's used. If all party members use a Terror Screen at 25% it is possible to defeat Yaanei before the effect wears off.
  • Paladins should save Fealty for the last 25%.
  • Have seen this NM spawn at 10:00 NM spawn times may have been revised*
  • Does not despawn by itself, so it will be there at any hour unless recently killed by another player.

The path up the mountain is the same as the one in the Chains of Promathia mission The Road Forks, although darkness might make it more difficult to see where you're going.

  • See The Road Forks for climbing guides.
  • Release all trusts before beginning the climb, as they will very likely get in the way and cause you to fall. Resummon them only when you are near the top.
  • While you will pass close to Veridical Conflux 4 on the way, it is not possible to activate it without falling down and having to begin the climb from the start.
  • If you have not climbed the mountain recently, it's worth considering doing a practice climb in the regular Attohwa Chasm zone to familiarize yourself with the path with better visibility and no time restriction.
  • Other than this NM, there are no mobs on the top of the mountain.

Derivations

Yaanei or Gaja is the "elephant" piece from the ancient Indian game caturaṅga (Sanskrit चतुरङ्ग). Its movement varies between sources, but can move two squares in any diagonal direction (similar to the Alfil of Shatranj), one square forward or diagonally (similar to the Silver General of Shogi), or orthogonally (similar to the Rook of modern Chess). In general, its closest analogue to modern Chess would be the Bishop.
