Bard guide

Hey, thanks for cleaning up my edit XD I've written an entirely new guide for my LS after editing this guide. I'll probably put it up on wiki as well =D Maybe you'd like to proof read it for me?

--Tattersail 04:04, 24 August 2006 (EDT) Thanks, I already put it up Bard Guide by Tattersail

Thanks

So nice of you to clean up for me! Grammar check is great :) I've added some more stuff so feel free to help :) --Tattersail 08:51, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

Strengths and Weaknesses

Don't bother editing them. We're in the process of deleting them altogether. --Mierin 13:04, 1 December 2006 (EST)

K.O.

I'm going to be reverting your edits to K.O., to retain the history of the edits. Just so you are aware, in your future edit, if the contents of a page need to be moved to a page of a different name, you must first nominate it for the move by placing the {{Move}} tag on the page. Then you explain on the talk page why the page needs to be moved, and the community discusses it. Once a resolution has been reached, if the page is to be moved, an admin uses the Move function to move the page to it's new name, so that all previous editors of the information are fully creditted in the history. Thank you for your understanding, and happy editing. --Chrisjander 20:47, 20 December 2006 (EST)

{{Move|}}

Please do not copy and paste others work and then create a new page because you feel like it needs to be named something else. There are procedures to follow. You place a {{Move|<new name}} on an already existing page, then on the talk page write why you think it should be moved and wait. People worked hard on the pages already made and in no way shape or form should there credit be stolen by anyone. An Admin has the ability to move a page to a new name if necessary thereby keeping all original Page History in tact. I am going to copy the K.O page you just made and put it back on Death and you can add the Move Template if you wish it to be moved to K.O and then on the talk page you can list why because what you did isn't right and it needs to be reverted. --Nynaeve 20:48, 20 December 2006 (EST)

EDIT: Damn, just not fast enough. --Nynaeve 20:49, 20 December 2006 (EST)

I have made the move on your behalf, your name is credited as the impetus for the move. If you wish to now edit the K.O. page so that the minor changes you wanted to make (i.e. changing references of "Death" to "KO" or "Unconsciousness") you may do that now, so that it has the effect you originally intended. Thank you. --Chrisjander 20:51, 20 December 2006 (EST)

You wrote: "Paralysis does not affect Weapon Skills." The reason I reverted this was its untrue. I have had a WS in the past canceled by paralyzed... just like when a mob can be paralyzed by using one of their TP attacks. Paralyze a crawler and you will be able to see its moves be canceled by paralysis, but watch it attempt that move again like a second later... You dont lose that TP but you will have to hit the button again. I tested this last night on Puks in Aydeewa Subterrane by getting Palsy Pollen and then having my NIN use his WS - it didn't happen often but at least once he got paralyzed. He still had his TP so he was able to try again but the weapon skill can be stopped by paralysis making that statement incorrect. --Nynaeve 21:20, 14 February 2007 (EST)

Redirects

Please understand that redirects of misspelled names, improperly cased versions (e.g. Gurfurlur the menacing), or improperly spaced names ( e.g. Gurfurlurthe Menacing) are not permitted as redirects in FFXIclopedia. Happy editing! --Charitwo 11:00, 24 March 2007 (EDT)

Content Removal

It is first appropriate to discuss mass changes to an article on the talk page to get the communities opinion on the matter. That section was present in the creation of the article and through nine months and 7 editors, although speculation on it's existance in the article was questioned, no consensus to remove it was made. --User:Charitwo/Sig 19:35, 29 May 2007 (CDT)

Ballista

Several changes have been made to the Ballista article since your Sandbox project, fyi. --User:Charitwo/Sig 18:37, 3 July 2007 (CDT)

Change the width of 468 to auto. --User:Charitwo/Sig 11:17, 10 July 2007 (CDT)

It worked for me: Before > After Auto is supposed to fit to whatever your resolution is. --User:Charitwo/Sig 16:53, 11 July 2007 (CDT)

Promathia Mission 3-5

I couldn't help but notice that you edited this text back in April, and among other changes you removed the line "*Remedy WILL NOT remove Bio effect from Nightmare." Was this a mistake? Or did you manage to remove the Bio effect with remedies while being in this fight yourself? If it was a mistake, please fix it again. If you removed it because it was wrong, then it'd be much better if you added something like "Remedy DOES have a chance of removing the Bio effect." --Valle 12:54, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

You really can't go by item description though. Holy Water item description for example, states "This potion remedies curse." Yet it will also remove Doom status effect that the Minotaur creatures in Phomiuna Aqueducts affect you with (though it will often take more than 1 holy water.) --Valle 10:35, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

Images

Since you asked why I reverted your images here are the reasons...

  • To large both in terms of dimensions and size. No excuse for a 1MB image file replacing one less than 40K.
  • Images are simply just of poor quality. They do not appear well at all when actually used.
  • They haven't been touched up at all for the purpose of being published. They are far to dark, for example.
  • They are of a considerably different aspect ratio than the originals.

Why are you replacing these photos? These "HD" versions aren't needed at present do not offer any benefit. Rather the opposite is being accomplished.

My advice is crop the file down to reasonable size. Increase brightness. Vertical resolution should not exceed 200 pixels, horizontal should stick with 512 pixels width.--Laraul 00:46, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

First I apologize for calling all your images ugly cuz some of them are actually quite good. Xarcabar-whatever (S) though was not one of them. This one for some reason i have ingrained in my brain for reasons I can not explain. But it is rather ugly.

I am almost certain that mediawiki does not "resize" the image before sending it to clients. It simply includes the width and height attributes in the IMG tag. This tells the browser how much image to reserve for the image. The full image is downloaded and then resized by the browser. I discovered your images by using the "Safari" browser's developer tools.

This is a rather poor way of communication... using the wiki. Been interrupted twice now (damn you real life!) leading me to press publish :P. I wonder if there is a better way for us to talk...

I uploaded a modified image of your Rabeo shot as an example perhaps.--Laraul 00:46, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Visit http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_img_height.asp to understand how the image tag works. You are basing you information on what the browser shows you. Not what the browser is ACTUALLY downloading. As said on page that is linked above...

"Tip: Downsizing a large image with the height and width attributes forces a user to download the large image (even if it looks small on the page). To avoid this, rescale the image with a program before using it on a page."

Hope this helps.--Laraul 06:12, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

I found something interesting... When The User-Agent string is FireFox/Chrome images are downloaded from a different domain. Everything else it seems downloads the full image. It appears to include a AJAX CSS page that modifies a ton of tag behavior. I'll have to study it more to determine what exactly is going on.

You may see this for yourself. Download this firefox add-on... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-rg/. It'll add a menu to swap the user agent string this is sent to the server when requesting a page. Swap the User-Agent to say IPAD, then reload the Port Jeuno page. Right click the image and open it a new window. It'll be the 1680x1050 one. You'll also see the URL is very different. Same browser different user-agent string.

Play around with it... maybe you'll discover something i've missed.--Laraul 00:00, April 28, 2011 (UTC)
