Couple things to start off with:
- Whitespace
under the welcome andunderneath the featured article is rather off.
- The area could be filled with a block of colour, but with most columnar designs, you can't get the columns to match up. Kirkburn (talk) 14:44, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- The issue is that the image that should be there is not being shown for some reason (at least in IE6). This is not too big a deal as we don't need an image map there. --GAHOO t/ c 15:00, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Seems to be relatively fixed, there's a margin of error between the left and the right, but as said above, not really possible to make it perfect. --User:Charitwo/Sig 17:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Google ads inside the content area isn't going to fly.
- The 300x250 ad space? I thought it had previously been discussed - if not: in order to sustain Wikia, these ads spaces will be needed - see WoWWiki's main page for example. We're working on some info about this, which I should be able to pass on soon. Kirkburn (talk) 14:44, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- It has been discsused at the bureaucrat level. I will discuss with admins and post on forums eventually. --GAHOO t/ c 15:00, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- The point here is that the content area belongs to the community, not to Wikia, and you can't force advertising there. Any additional "needed" advertising would have to be placed in header, footer, or sidebar areas. Want a good spot? Either replace the bottom 3 spotlights with another google ad so it makes one on the header and one on the footer, or... add the 2nd one to the sidebar like it was designed on Quartz. --User:Charitwo/Sig 17:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- For some reason, the content on the left is at the bottom of the page and the content on the right is at the top of the page. --User:Charitwo/Sig 13:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Could you provide a screenshot? I'm not sure what you mean. Kirkburn (talk) 14:44, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have the same issue. The left column is starting at the bottom of the right column - as if the sizes are off. I will try to get a screenshot up if I can. --GAHOO t/ c 15:00, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Appears to be fixed, fixed alignment issues slightly as per issue 1. --User:Charitwo/Sig 17:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback!
- Made some changes to fix the above and a few tweaks. --GAHOO t/ c 16:05, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Shouldn't the welcome blurb be at the top of the page? Makes sense for it to be the first thing people see, IMO. --Toksyuryel
- In theory yes, but it pushes the news and content too far down IMO. See User:Gahoo/Sandbox4. --GAHOO t/ c 18:48, 21 May 2008 (UTC).
- I guess it wasn't something I considered; I get my news direct from the POL site. I suppose that's a problem for people who come here for the news. Though, it would not be a problem if it weren't for that large empty banner at the top pushing the page down about 2 inches. Maybe that's the real issue? --Toksyuryel 02:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- That 2" is the ad space which is only empty if you are blocking our ads. I added a little down arrow next to the "welcome" to shuttle people down to the welcome message. --GAHOO t/ c 14:24, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I tried a fix for the content being pushed down on http://www.wowwiki.com/Portal:Main via this change [1]. The code here still confuses me a bit as to why it's so temperamental. It's probably just a few tweaks needed for the alignment issues. Design-wise, I think it does the job pretty well. Kirkburn (talk) 20:02, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
