Tyro is a female character in Greek mythology known largely for her role as mother to several Greek mythological characters. She was the daughter of Salmoneus and married Cretheus, but loved the river god Enipeus. In disguise, Poseidon fathered two children with Tyro; Pelias and Neleus. With Cretheus she had Aeson, Pheres, and Amythaon. In particular, her son Pelias is bound up with the stories of Jason and the quest for the Golden Fleece (which came from the Golden-Fleeced Ram, Krios Khrysomallos); this item is made with ram leather. The real significance of this being named after Tyro, though, may have something to do with Enipeus and Poseidon and some hidden water effect.
