Puppetmaster Equipment Guide

Overview

I was hoping to make a Equipment Guide for Puppetmaster that is similar to many others on FFXIclopedia. I would like to see essential items as well as a few not so essential but good to have items as well, there is no plan on adding everything that a PUP can use at this point but perhaps in the future. mogul 03:44, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Editing and Key Information

First thing you may notice is that there is no Ranged/Ammo column, this is because as a Puppetmaster you always have some type of Animator and possiblly Automaton Oil in those slots and if they are filled with anything else you lose out on the most essential of Puppetmaster gear, the Animator.

Columns are obvious what they are used for. "Level Range Notes" should just contain anything special that someone should know about that level range such as AF starts or new Automaton quest.

Augmenting Gear

There are some notable pieces of gear available from the "Add-on" scenarios that drastically increase the viability of Puppetmasters. You can customize your pieces manually when you first choose them. These pieces are the Mirke Wardecors (body), Anwig Salade (head) and the Desultor Tassets (legs). You can choose the Augment to enhance the Master's capabilities or the Automaton's. It is important to note that these pieces also work well with the Beastmaster and if you're a pet player, it is critical that you choose carefully. If you focus on magic attacks with your automaton, you may want the Magic Att/Acc Augment. If you are a heavy melee/ranger puppetmaster, then the Ranged attack/Attack and Randge Accuracy/Accuracy Augments may be more viable. Consider your options carefully.

Note also, that there are rings and capes that you can acquire that have decent Augments as well, including pet specific ones such as Pet Attack. It is a big game of chance as to whether you succeed in gaining the suitable Augments from the Treasure Coffer (Tenshodo).

Formatting

Italic Names means this is a NM drop.
Bold Names means it is a must have/essential item that no Puppetmaster should be without.
Bold and Italic Names mean this is an NM dropped item and you should get it at some point in time.
Green Names means this is a situational item and should have "(Tanking)" or "(DD)" next to it to denote what situation it is best used for.
Yellow Names mean this is a nice item to have if you can get it.
Please use the following appropriate templates for Rare and Exclusive items. Rare = {{Rare|nc}} and Exclusive = {{Exclusive|nc}} to prevent miscategorization.

Level Range Notes: Hopefully you're part of a Dynamis Linkshell and you can get the Pantin Attire Set. If your Dynamis shell does Chains of Promathia Dynamis you can get Pantin -1 items for Pantin Attire +1 Set. Also, if you're part of a group that does Einherjar, make sure you save your Therion Ichor to buy Animator +1. Puppetry Attire +1 Set items are from Apollyon and Temenos. Another possiblity for the level 80 weapon is the Magian Trial weapon Taipan Fangs. Add the INT+6 Pet: Magic Attack Bonus +8 augment and it will make a nice Nuking weapon!
