This guide is aimed at Rangers, who like me, spent much their career specializing in one ranged style and neglecting the other.

By following this guide you can avoid much of the tediousness of raising the skill of a ranged weapon.

Get a rapid firing ranged weapon, ideally with an accuracy boost, and stacks of the cheapest ammo you can find.

For archery it is suggested to get something like an Assassin's Bow and Wooden Arrows.

While for marksmanship a Republic Crossbow and Crossbow Bolts.

Get your ranged skill as high as possible by murdering mobs that pose no challenge, and won’t require a down time. This is boring and tedious, but without at least getting to this stage, you will miss every shot later.

Find a party, check with them that they wouldn’t mind you doing the odd bit of skill levelling every so often, assure them that you will still be doing plenty of damage.

Fight as normal, using your already levelled weapon, make sure you do plenty of damage, that is your job in a party after all.

When the time is right, activate Sharpshot then Barrage and give the mob hell, and then use any TP you have with an appropriate Weapon Skill.

Then quickly switch to the weapon you want to level (see the Pulling Guide for macro advice).

Sharpshot will still be active for about 40s, take this time to fire off as many shots a possible, most will miss, but those that do connect will give you as much as 0.5 skill gain. This means that is you’re lucky you will gain a level each time you do this.

Once Sharpshot is gone switch back to your normal weapon…..

Rinse and repeat.

Can I please emphasize that though this a very fast way of levelling a weapon, not every party appreciates the damage rate dropping for 40s, so please check before doing this. --Barrington 07:27, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

agreed, if skilling up in a pt, you definatly want to use an atleast decent bow/xbow, and normal ammo--Rog 06:20, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
