MediaWiki talk:Talkpagetext

Talk Page Helptext proposal

I had another brainstorm and thought this could be put to good use. Here is what I'm thinking:

Raw code:

This is a talk page. Remember to respect your fellow editors and sign your posts using four tildes (--~~~~).

Which will generate this notice above the edit toolbar:

This is a talk page. Remember to respect your fellow editors and sign your posts using four tildes (--~~~~).

Figure with new editors and certain discussions or user talk page edits that can sometimes get out of hand, it would be helpful to have some sort of guideline at the top of talk page edit screens. The above is merely an example, please post if you think it should be modified more. --User:Charitwo/Sig 21:13, 23 July 2007 (CDT)

I don't think its a bad idea. It couldn't hurt at least. --User:Nynaeve/Sig 20:52, 24 July 2007 (CDT)

Is the idea for this that it would be at the top of every talk page? --GAHOO t/ c 07:34, 26 July 2007 (CDT)
Only while inside the edit screen (e.g. &action=edit), if you're simply viewing the talk page, it will not be displayed. --User:Charitwo/Sig 16:08, 26 July 2007 (CDT)

Gahoo? --User:Charitwo/Sig 20:14, 30 August 2007 (CDT)

So this would appear just below the "Edit PAGENAME" and just above the Javascript editing tools when editing talk pages only? --◄Chrisjander► t/ c 16:18, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Er... I tried to change the width so that this will be on one line. But not sure it "took". Will it be on one line? --GAHOO t/ c 16:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

It would only appear when editing a page in the Talk: namespace, if you're simply viewing the talk page, it won't be displayed. I tried adjusting the width to one line, but it floods itself on top of ad/right sidebar area, so maybe left alignment with a shorter span like the above? --User:Charitwo/Sig 16:27, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
