九鈎刀 Is a Chinese broadsword^[1] ornamented with nine hooks on the spine, sometimes finished with tassels tied to each hook. While modern replicas exist^[2], there are no historical records of such weapons and they appear to be a variation of ring-ornamented Chinese swords of similarly murky provenance. The number nine is associated with the emperor and longevity in Chinese numerology.^[3]
